Trump Urges Allies to Secure Hormuz, Rejects Ceasefire Calls

Washington, March 2026 : Donald Trump has called on global powers and US allies to take greater responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz, while firmly ruling out any pause in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Addressing reporters, Trump argued that the burden of protecting the crucial oil corridor should not fall solely on the United States. He pointed out that several economies—including those in Europe and Asia—depend heavily on the strait for energy supplies. Countries such as South Korea, Japan, and China, he said, must step forward and play a more active role in ensuring maritime security.

Describing the reopening and safeguarding of the strait as achievable, Trump termed it a “simple military maneuver,” though he acknowledged that it would require substantial coordination, naval resources, and international cooperation. He stressed that ensuring uninterrupted passage would need “volume” in terms of ships and collective effort from multiple nations. At the same time, he criticised NATO for what he described as a lack of initiative so far.

Trump also expressed disappointment with key Indo-Pacific partners, including Australia, suggesting their limited involvement was unexpected. He emphasised that allies benefiting from stable trade routes should contribute more directly to their protection.

On the broader conflict, Trump made it clear that the United States has no intention of agreeing to a ceasefire, despite mounting international appeals for de-escalation. He argued that halting military operations at a stage when, in his view, the US holds a decisive advantage would be counterproductive.

Reiterating his assessment of the battlefield situation, Trump claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, including its naval and air power. He suggested that the campaign was close to achieving its intended objectives.

Addressing economic concerns, including fluctuations in global oil prices and market uncertainty, Trump downplayed the risks. He maintained that the operation was necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, framing it as a strategic imperative that outweighs short-term economic pressures.

The president also noted that the military campaign was progressing faster than initially expected, indicating confidence within the administration about its trajectory. He suggested that operations were “weeks ahead of schedule,” reinforcing his stance that sustained pressure, rather than a pause, remains the preferred course.

As tensions persist, Trump’s remarks signal a continued push for allied burden-sharing and an uncompromising approach to the conflict, even as global calls for restraint grow louder.
