‘Rajmata Jijau’ ST Bus Service to Be Launched by CM Fadnavis: Transport Minister
Mumbai, March 2026 : A new chapter in Maharashtra’s public transport system is set to begin with the launch of the advanced ‘Rajmata Jijau’ State Transport (ST) bus service, combining the state’s rich historical legacy with modern technology. The service will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on March 24, 2026, at the Vidhan Bhavan premises, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar.
Transport Minister and Chairman of the State Transport Corporation Pratap Sarnaik said that Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde and Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar will attend the ceremony as special guests.
Sarnaik said the inclusion of the ‘Rajmata Jijau’ buses represents a harmonious blend of tradition and progress in the ST fleet. Around 3,000 new smart buses under this service will soon be added, significantly strengthening the state’s public transport network.
The buses are named ‘Rajmata Jijau’ as a tribute to Jijabai, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a key inspiration behind the establishment of Hindavi Swarajya. The name honours her contribution as a symbol of strength and values. The ST Corporation has previously introduced buses with historic names such as Shivneri, Shivshahi, Shivai, Yashvanti, and Hirkani, and the addition of ‘Rajmata Jijau’ further enriches this legacy.
Key Features of the New Buses:
The buses will have a 3×2 seating arrangement with a total capacity of 56 seats, which is 16 more than the current buses, offering enhanced comfort and convenience to passengers.
Equipped with modern amenities, the buses will feature four CCTV cameras, a GPS system, a panic button, a public announcement system, and electronic destination display boards, ensuring a safer and smarter travel experience.
These buses will primarily operate as shuttle services on high-density intercity routes, helping reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion.
Under the first phase of the initiative, 50 buses will be deployed in Nagpur, from where the new service will be launched.
Sarnaik emphasised that the ‘Rajmata Jijau’ bus service is not just a transport initiative but a symbol of Maharashtra’s cultural pride and modern aspirations. He expressed confidence that the project will make public transport in the state more efficient, secure, and passenger-friendly.
