CM Devendra Fadnavis Inaugurates ‘Rajmata Jijau’ Bus Service of MSRTC

Mumbai, March 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday inaugurated the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) new bus service, ‘Rajmata Jijau’, equipped with modern amenities.

The launch ceremony was held at the Vidhan Bhavan premises in Mumbai and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, members of both Houses of the state legislature, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Sanjay Sethi, MSRTC Managing Director Madhav Kusekar, senior representatives from Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors, among others.

The ‘Rajmata Jijau’ bus service has been introduced to honor the legacy of Rajmata Jijabai, mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a key figure in shaping his vision of Hindavi Swarajya. The service is intended as a tribute to her inspiring contributions to Maharashtra’s history.

Under this initiative, around 3,000 buses will be inducted into the state transport fleet in a phased manner. These buses aim to provide passengers with a safer, more comfortable, and technologically advanced travel experience.

The new service joins MSRTC’s existing fleet offerings, which include popular services such as ‘Shivneri’, ‘Shivshahi’, ‘Shivai’, ‘Hirkani’, and ‘Yashwanti’. The addition of ‘Rajmata Jijau’ is expected to further strengthen the state’s public transport system and make it more passenger-centric.

The inauguration was marked by a ceremonial puja and ribbon-cutting by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers. Following the launch, the dignitaries also took a symbolic ride in the new bus.

Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, a symbolic tableau depicting Rajmata Jijau on horseback was displayed in front of the bus, giving the event a historic and inspirational touch.
