Innovative Initiatives Strengthening Maternal and Child Health in Maharashtra: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, March 2026: Maharashtra is effectively implementing a range of innovative initiatives to promote maternal and child health, with significant steps being taken to strengthen the public healthcare system, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
Under the Chief Minister’s guidance, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre has been established on CIDCO land in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The facility was inaugurated by Fadnavis and is playing a key role in advancing child healthcare services across the state.
Through this centre, Two-Dimensional Echocardiography (2D-Echo) camps have been organised in all 36 districts under the National Child Health Programme (RBSK). These camps have enabled cardiology specialists to conduct a total of 2,507 2D-Echo screenings at various district hospitals. Additionally, 3,226 children suffering from congenital heart disease (CHD) have received treatment at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre through RBSK teams operating across Maharashtra.
Following the Chief Minister’s directions, the centre has also adopted tribal-dominated talukas such as Junnar in Pune district and Jawali in Satara district, where targeted healthcare interventions are being implemented. Efforts have also been made to strengthen healthcare services in urban slum areas of Pune, while outreach services are being extended in Panvel taluka of Raigad district.
In the Vidarbha region, mega screening camps for congenital heart disease among children are being conducted in Chandrapur, Yavatmal, and Nagpur districts, ensuring that even those in remote areas have access to advanced medical care.
Special health initiatives have also been launched in Navi Mumbai for the children of construction workers and brick kiln labourers. Additionally, a screening programme for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and cancer has been introduced for Anganwadi workers.
So far, more than 3,500 government personnel, including ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, auxiliary nurse midwives, and medical officers, have been trained under capacity-building programmes. These initiatives are proving to be crucial in making the state’s healthcare system more robust, inclusive, and effective.
