Khelo India Tribal Games 2026: Wrestling Competition Kicks Off in Sarguja
Raipur, March 2026 : The wrestling competition under the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 began on a vibrant note on the fourth day of the event in Ambikapur, Sarguja district. The matches are being held at Gandhi Stadium, where a total of 144 wrestlers from 30 states across the country are participating.
The opening day witnessed thrilling bouts as young wrestlers showcased impressive technique, strength, and strategy. The matches drew significant attention, with participants delivering high-energy performances in various weight categories.

In the men’s freestyle senior category (74 kg), Munair Hussain from Jammu & Kashmir and Vikram Sahebrao Pawar from Maharashtra secured victories in their respective rounds to book their places in the final. Similarly, in the 125 kg freestyle category, Banoth Vinod Kumar from Telangana and Vinod Yashwant Salkar from Maharashtra advanced to the final after winning their matches.
In the Greco-Roman senior category, exciting contests were also seen. In the 67 kg weight class, Gujarat’s Vasava Mukesh Bhai and Jharkhand’s Anjitkar Munda progressed to the final. In the 97 kg category, Navish Kumar from Himachal Pradesh and Shama Hun from Jammu & Kashmir secured their spots in the final rounds.
The women’s events also saw strong competition. In the senior 50 kg category, Poonam Oraon from Jharkhand and K. Geeta from Telangana advanced to the final after winning their respective matches. In the 62 kg category, Debi Daimari from Assam and Priyanka Chaudhary from Himachal Pradesh will compete for the gold medal.
The successful start of the wrestling competition highlights the growing talent in tribal regions and provides a valuable platform for athletes to showcase their skills at a national level. The upcoming finals are expected to deliver even more exciting action as wrestlers compete for top honours.
