PM Modi to Launch ₹67 Crore Tourism Projects Across North Gujarat
Vav-Tharad (Gujarat), March 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for tourism projects worth over Rs 67 crore across North Gujarat on March 31, marking a significant push to enhance the state’s tourism infrastructure.
The initiative aligns with the Gujarat government’s broader vision of promoting 2026 as ‘Gujarat Tourism Year’, with a focus on modernising heritage sites while preserving their historical essence. The projects span prominent destinations such as Rani ki Vav, Vadnagar, and Balaram, combining conservation efforts with technology-driven visitor experiences.
At Rani ki Vav, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Patan, a light and sound show along with advanced projection mapping has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore. The installation is designed to narrate the story of Queen Udayamati and highlight the architectural brilliance and traditional water management systems associated with the stepwell. Officials said the project seeks to present historical narratives through immersive and contemporary visual formats.
In Vadnagar, a major attraction has been developed at Sharmishtha Lake, where a water screen projection show has been set up at a cost of approximately Rs 25 crore. The show uses synchronised light and sound projected onto water screens to depict the town’s rich heritage and ancient water conservation techniques, offering visitors a unique blend of history and innovation.
Further north, in Banaskantha district, development works worth around Rs 25 crore are underway at Balaram Mahadev Temple and the nearby Vishweshwar Mahadev Temple. These include improvements such as construction and renovation of ghats, parking facilities, entrance gates, internal roads, gazebos, and food kiosks. The aim is to enhance accessibility and visitor comfort while preserving the religious and natural importance of the sites.
The Gujarat government said these projects are part of a larger tourism development strategy that includes upgrading heritage locations, improving connectivity, and strengthening visitor services such as trained guides. Budgetary allocations for these initiatives have been made under the current financial plan.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasised the state’s commitment to showcasing its cultural heritage through modern infrastructure, while Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi has overseen key aspects of planning and implementation through the tourism department.
According to an official statement, the projects are intended not only to preserve historical landmarks but also to make them more engaging for younger generations through the use of technology. The developments will be e-inaugurated from Vav-Tharad during the Prime Minister’s visit, with officials expressing confidence that the initiative will boost tourism and economic activity across North Gujarat.
