Mamata Banerjee Extends Rajasthan Diwas Greetings, Calls Rajasthani and Marwari Communities Integral to Bengal
Kolkata, March 2026 : Marking the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday emphasised that the Rajasthani and Marwari communities remain an integral part of the state’s social and economic fabric, acknowledging their longstanding contributions to its growth and development.
In a message shared on social media, Banerjee praised the role played by members of these communities across various sectors in West Bengal. She noted that their efforts have significantly contributed to the progress of the state and helped strengthen its economic and cultural landscape.
“The Rajasthani and Marwari communities will always remain an essential part of the Bengal family,” the Chief Minister said, reiterating her government’s commitment to ensuring an environment where all communities can grow and prosper together. She added that the administration remains dedicated to maintaining peace, harmony, and inclusiveness, enabling every section of society to thrive.
Banerjee’s message comes at a politically significant time, with Assembly elections in the state scheduled in phases next month. Political observers believe the outreach carries strategic importance, particularly in engaging communities that have traditionally been considered supportive of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Analysts point out that in several constituencies, especially urban pockets, non-Bengali-speaking communities—including Rajasthanis and Marwaris—form a sizeable portion of the electorate. Their voting patterns have historically influenced electoral outcomes, making them a key demographic in closely contested seats.
One such constituency is Bhabanipur in south Kolkata, which is set to vote in the second phase of polling. According to political observers, a significant percentage of voters in the constituency are non-Bengali-speaking Hindus, including members of Gujarati, Rajasthani, and Marwari communities. This demographic composition adds weight to the Chief Minister’s outreach message.
Bhabanipur has emerged as one of the most high-profile constituencies in the upcoming elections, with Mamata Banerjee contesting against Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Adhikari is also contesting from his stronghold in Nandigram, making the electoral battle particularly significant.
Political experts suggest that Banerjee’s Rajasthan Diwas message reflects an effort to reinforce inclusivity while also appealing to diverse voter groups ahead of the polls. By highlighting the contributions of Rajasthani and Marwari communities and reaffirming their place within the state, the Chief Minister has sought to send a message of unity and shared progress.
As the election campaign gathers momentum, such gestures are expected to play a role in shaping voter perceptions, especially among communities that hold influence in key constituencies across the state.
