Seeman Files Nomination from Karaikudi, Targets ‘Freebie Culture’ in Tamil Nadu Politics

Karaikudi, March 2026 : Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman on Monday filed his nomination from the Karaikudi Assembly constituency, marking a key moment in his party’s campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.

Seeman arrived at the election office located at the Devakottai Sub-Collector’s Office accompanied by his family members. In a gesture reflecting his personal values and cultural roots, he sought the blessings of his mother before submitting his nomination papers. The moment drew attention from party workers and supporters, who had gathered in large numbers outside the premises to witness the filing.

Nomination Process and Symbolic Gesture

As part of the formalities, a second set of nomination papers was filed in the name of his wife, Kayalvizhi, who has been listed as the substitute candidate. This follows standard electoral procedures to ensure continuity in the event of disqualification or withdrawal of the primary candidate.

The filing of nomination was marked by enthusiasm among NTK supporters, with the event turning into a display of grassroots backing for Seeman’s candidacy in the constituency.

Sharp Attack on ‘Freebie Culture’

Addressing the media soon after filing his nomination, Seeman launched a strong critique of what he described as the entrenched “freebie culture” in Tamil Nadu politics, often associated with Dravidian parties.

He questioned the rationale behind distributing consumer goods such as mixers, grinders, and washing machines, arguing that such measures do not address the real needs of the people. “Who asked for these items?” he asked, suggesting that these policies encourage dependency rather than empowerment.

Focus on Infrastructure and Accountability

Seeman stressed that citizens are more concerned about quality infrastructure and reliable public services than free offerings. Referring to public transport, he remarked that people are not merely seeking free bus rides but better and more efficient systems.

Raising concerns about fiscal discipline, he pointed out that state budgets frequently run into deficits. He questioned the sustainability of continuing such welfare schemes in the face of financial constraints, calling for a more responsible approach to governance.

Campaign Positioning

Seeman’s remarks underline his attempt to position himself as an alternative to established political narratives in Tamil Nadu. By focusing on economic accountability and development-oriented policies, he is seeking to differentiate his campaign from traditional populist approaches.

As the election campaign gathers pace, his stance signals a sharper ideological contest in the state, with debates likely to centre on welfare versus long-term development priorities.
