IPL 2026: Punjab Kings Opt to Bowl First Against Gujarat Titans in Season Clash
New Chandigarh, March 2026 : Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first against Gujarat Titans in Match 4 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Punjab Kings entered the contest riding high on confidence after a remarkable run in the 2025 season, where they finished as runners-up—one of their best performances in the tournament’s history. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, also had an impressive campaign last year, finishing third in the league stage under captain Shubman Gill before bowing out in the Eliminator against the Mumbai Indians by 20 runs.

Interestingly, both teams had opened their IPL 2025 campaigns against each other as well, with Punjab Kings emerging victorious by 11 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Their rivalry has been closely contested, with the head-to-head record evenly poised at three wins each from six encounters.
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer explained his decision to field first, emphasising the advantage of chasing under current conditions. He noted that recent practice matches suggested totals on this surface were easier to chase. Iyer also stressed the importance of staying focused on the present season rather than dwelling on past success, adding that the team aims to play its best brand of cricket. He confirmed the inclusion of overseas players Cooper Connolly, Marcus Stoinis, Xavier Bartlett, and Marco Jansen in the playing XI.

On the other side, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill expressed confidence in the pitch, describing it as good for batting despite intermittent rain over the past two days. He highlighted the team’s balanced combination and the presence of experienced international stars such as Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada. Gill also mentioned new additions to the squad, indicating a mix of fresh talent and seasoned performers.
The match promises to be a competitive encounter, given both teams’ strong line-ups and evenly matched history. Punjab Kings will rely on their bowling attack, led by Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal, while Gujarat Titans will look to their batting depth and all-round capabilities to set or chase a formidable total.
With both sides eager to start their IPL 2026 campaign on a winning note, fans can expect an exciting contest filled with high-quality cricket and intense competition.
