Chief Secretary Inspects Ongoing NHIDCL Road Projects in Kolasib District
Kolasib, April 2026: Khilli Ram Meena, Chief Secretary of Mizoram, visited Kolasib district to inspect the ongoing four-lane road construction and maintenance works on National Highways 306 and 06 being carried out by NHIDCL.
During his visit, he reviewed the progress of the projects on-site and instructed NHIDCL officials and contractors to expedite the pending works and ensure timely completion.
The Chief Secretary also visited the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School in Vairengte, where he held discussions with officials regarding land-related matters, including compensation and pending issues with landowners. Following this, he continued his inspection of the under-construction four-lane highway and ongoing road improvement works toward Kolasib.
A review meeting was later held at the Kolasib DC Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner H Dolianbuaia, attended by NHIDCL representatives and officials from various departments. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary expressed dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay in completing the National Highway works, stating that despite the passage of considerable time, the project remained unfinished due to various reasons.
He recalled his previous visit last year aimed at accelerating the project and said that the progress made so far had not met expectations. Rejecting the reasons cited for delays as insufficient, he stressed that while excuses may always exist, tangible work and results were what mattered most.
He directed NHIDCL officials to strictly monitor their contractors and accelerate the pace of construction. He further instructed that all ongoing road development and repair works be completed within April 2026.
According to NHIDCL representatives, work on several stretches between Vairengte and Sairang — specifically at Km 42–70, Km 95–118, and Km 133–147.8 — has already been completed. However, they noted that certain sections, including Km 70–95, Km 118–133, and Km 147.8–159, were in poor condition when taken over from the Public Works Department in July 2025.
Officials explained that due to the severely damaged condition of these stretches, they had to undertake emergency repairs for over three months before commencing the main construction work. Despite these initial challenges, work on dense bituminous macadam (DBM), pavement quality concrete (PQC), and foundational layers is now progressing steadily, with 30 to 48 per cent of work completed in these segments.
NHIDCL assured that all efforts are being made to complete the remaining work within April 2026.
After concluding the meeting in Kolasib, the Chief Secretary proceeded toward Sairang to further inspect the road works.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Laltlanhlua Zathang, Lalnunsanga, Robin Lalrinawma, B Malsawmsangi, Vanlalrova, along with other departmental representatives.
