RCB Smash Record 250/3 as David, Padikkal and Patidar Power Batting Blitz

Bengaluru, April 2026 : Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a batting masterclass to post a massive 250/3—the highest total of the Indian Premier League 2026—against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

The innings was headlined by explosive knocks from Tim David, Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Rajat Patidar, whose fearless strokeplay left the opposition stunned. A breathtaking, unbeaten 99-run partnership between David and Patidar off just 35 balls in the death overs proved decisive in propelling RCB to the towering total.

Batting first after being put in, RCB started cautiously as Phil Salt and Virat Kohli navigated the early swing generated by Khaleel Ahmed and Matt Henry. Kohli broke the shackles in the fourth over with a six and two boundaries but was dismissed soon after for 28 off 18 balls, caught by Shivam Dube off Anshul Kamboj.

Salt, initially scratchy, found his rhythm with a mix of pulls and slog-sweeps, accelerating to 46 off 30 balls before falling to Dube in the 11th over. With two early wickets down, Padikkal anchored the innings and ensured stability through the middle overs.

Padikkal, who was dropped once by Ruturaj Gaikwad, made the most of the reprieve. He shifted gears seamlessly, dispatching bowlers to all parts of the ground. His innings of 50 off 29 balls—featuring crisp boundaries and towering sixes—marked his second consecutive half-century of the season. However, his stay ended in the 15th over when he was bowled by Jamie Overton while attempting an audacious lap shot.

At 151/3 after 14.1 overs, RCB looked set for a strong finish—but what followed was sheer carnage. Patidar and David unleashed an extraordinary assault on the CSK bowlers, turning a good total into a record-breaking one.

Patidar smashed an unbeaten 48 off just 19 deliveries, striking cleanly and finding the gaps with precision. At the other end, David was simply unstoppable. The Australian powerhouse hammered 70 not out off just 25 balls, reaching his half-century in a blistering 21 deliveries.

David’s onslaught began with three consecutive sixes off Noor Ahmad and reached its peak in the penultimate over when he took Overton apart for four sixes and a boundary. One of his towering hits even sailed out of the stadium, drawing loud cheers from the crowd and admiration from teammates, including Kohli, who was seen applauding from the dugout.

Even a near-perfect yorker from Kamboj turned into a nightmare for CSK after an overstep resulted in a free hit, which David dispatched for another maximum. The final five overs yielded a staggering 97 runs, highlighting the sheer dominance of RCB’s finishers.

The innings not only showcased RCB’s batting depth but also underlined their intent to dominate the season as defending champions. With a daunting target set, CSK now face an uphill battle to chase down one of the biggest totals in IPL history.

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bengaluru 250/3 in 20 overs (Tim David 70*, Devdutt Padikkal 50; Shivam Dube 1-30, Jamie Overton 1-42) against Chennai Super Kings.
