Sooryavanshi Blitz and Jurel Masterclass Power Rajasthan Royals to Dominant Win Over RCB

Guwahati, April 2026 : A sensational opening onslaught by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, followed by a composed and authoritative innings from Dhruv Jurel, powered the Rajasthan Royals to a commanding six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 16 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a challenging target of 202, Rajasthan Royals came out with remarkable aggression, setting the tone right from the first over. The highlight of the chase was undoubtedly the explosive innings by young sensation Sooryavanshi, who hammered 78 runs off just 26 balls in a breathtaking display of power-hitting and confidence. From the outset, he looked in complete control, dismantling RCB’s experienced bowling attack with fearless strokeplay.

Sooryavanshi began his assault against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, converting a near-perfect yorker into a crisp boundary before lofting another delivery elegantly over the infield. He then took on Josh Hazlewood with equal authority, smashing a series of boundaries that signalled his intent to dominate anything in his hitting arc. Even as the bowlers attempted to vary their lengths and lines, Sooryavanshi adapted brilliantly, showcasing both skill and audacity.

At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal provided brief support with a quick 13 before falling to a cross-seam delivery. However, his dismissal did little to halt Rajasthan’s momentum. Sooryavanshi continued to dictate terms, reaching a stunning half-century in just 15 balls—matching his previous record. He achieved the milestone with back-to-back sixes, one a powerful strike over long-on and the other a top-edged pull that sailed over the boundary.

Rajasthan Royals recorded their highest-ever Power-play score in IPL history, racing to 97/1 in six overs. The scoring rate remained relentless as they crossed the 100-run mark in just 6.2 overs, putting the chase firmly in their control.

The breakthrough for RCB came through Krunal Pandya, who dismissed Sooryavanshi after the batter miscued a shot to Virat Kohli in the deep. The very next delivery saw Shimron Hetmyer depart cheaply, triggering a brief wobble as Rajasthan slipped from a dominant position to 134/4.

Sensing an opportunity, RCB tightened their bowling and fielding, stringing together dot balls and building pressure during the middle overs. Krunal Pandya played a key role in this phase, restricting boundaries and bringing the required run rate down significantly. However, Rajasthan still had the advantage of wickets in hand.

Amid this pressure, Dhruv Jurel stepped up with a calm and composed approach. Rotating the strike efficiently and punishing loose deliveries, he ensured the innings did not lose direction. Jurel reached his half-century in 25 balls, demonstrating maturity and control as he anchored the chase.

He found an able partner in Ravindra Jadeja, and together they stitched a crucial 68-run partnership that steadied the innings. Their stand absorbed the pressure created by RCB and ensured that the chase remained on track without any late drama.

Jurel remained unbeaten on a superb 81 off 43 balls—his highest score in T20 cricket—as Rajasthan Royals comfortably chased down the target with two overs to spare, sealing an impressive victory.

Earlier in the match, RCB posted a competitive total of 201/8 in their 20 overs. However, their innings began on a dramatic note when Jofra Archer dismissed Phil Salt with a sharp bouncer off the very first ball. Despite the early setback, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal counterattacked aggressively, stitching together a rapid 45-run partnership in just 17 balls.

Rajasthan struck back soon after, with Archer removing Padikkal and Ravi Bishnoi delivering a crucial double blow by dismissing Kohli and Krunal Pandya in quick succession. RCB’s middle order struggled to cope with the pressure, slipping to 76/5 in 8.4 overs.

A brief counterattack from Romario Shepherd, who scored a quick 22, provided some relief before he was dismissed by Jadeja. The innings was then revived by captain Rajat Patidar, who played a vital knock of 63. Initially cautious, Patidar accelerated impressively, smashing several boundaries and sixes to push the total forward.

He received good support from Venkatesh Iyer, who contributed a brisk 29 off 15 balls. Late contributions from Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped RCB cross the 200-run mark, setting up what seemed to be a competitive contest.

However, Rajasthan Royals’ explosive start and composed middle-order performance ultimately proved too strong. Reflecting on the defeat, Patidar acknowledged that Sooryavanshi’s innings was the turning point.

“Everyone would have loved watching Vaibhav bat. The way he and Jaiswal started made it look like the pitch had nothing for bowlers. There are plenty of lessons for us from this game,” he said.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals showcased their batting depth and fearless approach, while RCB were left to reflect on missed opportunities in both bowling and fielding in a high-scoring encounter.

Brief scores:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru 201/8 in 20 overs (Rajat Patidar 63, Virat Kohli 32; Ravi Bishnoi 2-32, Jofra Archer 2-33) lost to

Rajasthan Royals 202/4 in 18 overs (Dhruv Jurel 81, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 78; Krunal Pandya 2-40, Josh Hazlewood 2-44) by six wickets
