ICC Announces Record Prize Pool for Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Tournament Set for Historic Expansion

Dubai, April 2026 : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a record-breaking prize fund of USD 8,764,615 for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, marking a significant 10 per cent increase from the 2024 edition. The move highlights the governing body’s continued push to elevate women’s cricket on the global stage, both in terms of competitiveness and commercial value.

The prize pool surpasses the USD 7,958,077 distributed among 10 teams during the previous edition held in the United Arab Emirates. Notably, the 2026 tournament will expand to 12 teams for the first time, signalling a major step forward in inclusivity and global participation. Hosts England will be joined by Australia, Bangladesh, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

As per the announced structure, the tournament winners will once again take home USD 2,340,000, while the runners-up will receive USD 1,170,000. Teams losing in the semi-finals will earn USD 675,000 each, and every group-stage win will be rewarded with USD 31,154. Importantly, all participating teams are guaranteed a minimum payout of USD 247,500, ensuring broader financial support across the competition.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 12, with the opening clash between England and Sri Lanka at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The 33-match event will unfold over 24 days across seven venues in England and Wales, promising a thrilling showcase of top-tier women’s cricket.

ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta emphasised that the expanded format and enhanced prize pool reflect the sport’s rapid growth. He noted that increased investment and opportunities are driving the rise of women’s cricket, with female athletes gaining greater global recognition and influence. Gupta also expressed confidence that the tournament could set new benchmarks in attendance and viewership, further strengthening its cultural and sporting impact worldwide.

Adding to the excitement, the ICC has launched an extensive Trophy Tour, which began in London. The iconic trophy is being showcased at Lord’s Cricket Ground—widely regarded as the “Home of Cricket”—where a special projection display has been introduced for the first time on its historic pavilion.

The tour will travel across Europe, including stops in the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland, before moving through key host cities. Major fan engagement events are planned at prominent locations such as Millennium Square in Leeds, St Peter’s Square in Manchester, the Bullring in Birmingham, Cabot Circus in Bristol, Guildhall Square in Southampton, and Trafalgar Square in London.

Tournament Director Beth Barrett-Wild described the 2026 edition as a landmark moment, with expectations of record-breaking attendance and unprecedented ticket demand. She highlighted that the prize money now aligns with the men’s game, underlining the growing stature and appeal of women’s cricket globally.

The trophy will visit multiple destinations in the lead-up to the tournament, including Scotland (May 7–10), the Netherlands (May 11–14), Ireland (May 15–18), Leeds (May 19–24), Manchester (May 25–27), Birmingham (May 28–29), Bristol (May 31–June 1), Southampton (June 3–4), and London (June 5–8).

With expanded participation, record financial backing, and widespread fan engagement initiatives, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is poised to redefine the landscape of women’s cricket and set new global standards for the sport.
