Samrat Choudhary to Take Oath as Bihar’s First BJP Chief Minister

Patna, April 2025 : In a landmark political shift, Samrat Choudhary is set to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, ushering in a new era in the state’s governance. The ceremony, scheduled for 10:50 a.m. at the Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhawan) in Patna, will mark the first time a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party assumes the top post in Bihar.

Choudhary, who recently served as Deputy Chief Minister under Nitish Kumar, was unanimously chosen as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following Kumar’s resignation on Tuesday. After a political career spanning more than two decades as Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar has stepped down to transition to the Rajya Sabha, marking the end of an era in Bihar politics.

The oath of office will be administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain. Alongside Choudhary, two Deputy Chief Ministers from the Janata Dal (United) quota—Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav—are also expected to take oath, reflecting the coalition dynamics within the ruling alliance.

The swearing-in ceremony is likely to witness the presence of several senior leaders, including Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and party strategist B. L. Santhosh, along with dignitaries from across the country.

On Tuesday evening, Choudhary met Governor Hasnain at the Raj Bhavan to formally stake his claim to form the government. The BJP leadership has expressed strong confidence in his ability to lead Bihar into a new phase of development, improved governance, and economic growth.

Samrat Choudhary began his political journey in 1990 and first held ministerial office in 1999 in the government led by Rabri Devi. Over the years, he has managed key portfolios such as Urban Development, Housing, and Panchayati Raj, steadily rising through the political ranks before becoming Deputy Chief Minister in 2024.

With Nitish Kumar stepping aside after more than 20 years in power, Bihar now stands at the cusp of a significant political transformation. Choudhary’s elevation is expected to signal a fresh chapter in the state’s leadership, with renewed focus on governance and development.
