April 2026 : Rubel Hossain has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished career that saw him emerge as one of Bangladesh’s most dependable fast bowlers. The 36-year-old pacer shared the news through an emotional message on social media, reflecting on his journey and contributions to the national team.

In his statement, Rubel expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to represent Bangladesh on the global stage. “Playing for the national team has always meant a lot to me. But there comes a time when one has to step away from international cricket,” he wrote, formally confirming his decision to retire.

While stepping away from international duties, Rubel clarified that he is not bidding farewell to the sport entirely. He said he intends to continue playing domestic cricket and remain connected to the game that has defined his life. Thanking those who stood by him throughout his career, he acknowledged the support of his family, friends, media, and fans, expressing hope that their encouragement would continue in the next phase of his journey.

Rubel’s international career spanned more than a decade, during which he played a key role in strengthening Bangladesh’s pace attack. Known for his raw speed and ability to deliver under pressure, he became a vital asset, particularly in limited-overs formats.

He last represented Bangladesh in an international series against New Zealand in 2021. Over the course of his career, Rubel built an impressive record across formats. In Test cricket, he picked up 36 wickets, while in One Day Internationals (ODIs), he claimed 129 wickets, showcasing his effectiveness with the white ball. In T20 Internationals, he added another 28 wickets to his tally.

Rubel’s contributions were especially significant during Bangladesh’s rise as a competitive force in limited-overs cricket. His ability to bowl at pace, coupled with his knack for picking up crucial wickets in pressure situations, made him a match-winner on several occasions.

Even after his last international appearance, Rubel remained active in domestic cricket. Most recently, he turned out for Prime Bank Cricket Club in 2024, continuing to demonstrate his passion for the game and commitment to staying competitive.

As he steps away from the international arena, Rubel Hossain leaves behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and memorable performances that will be cherished by Bangladesh cricket fans for years to come.
