Gill’s Brilliant 86 Guides Gujarat Titans to Thrilling Win Over KKR
Ahmedabad, April 2026 : A scintillating knock of 86 runs off 50 balls by Shubman Gill powered Gujarat Titans to a nail-biting five-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 25 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.
Chasing a competitive target of 181, Gujarat Titans had a shaky start, losing early wickets and facing pressure from the KKR bowling attack. However, skipper Shubman Gill rose to the occasion with a captain’s innings, combining aggression with composure. His knock, laced with eight boundaries and four sixes, anchored the chase and kept the Titans in contention throughout the innings.
Gill found support from the middle order, with Sai Sudharsan (22) and Jos Buttler (25) contributing valuable runs. Later, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan held their nerves to guide the team home with just two balls to spare, ensuring a thrilling finish for the home side.
For KKR, Varun Chakaravarthy was the most effective bowler, claiming two wickets, while Sunil Narine, Vaibhav Arora, and Ramandeep Singh chipped in with one wicket each. Despite their efforts, the bowlers struggled to contain the Titans on a batting-friendly surface.
Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a total of 180 in 20 overs after opting to bat first. Cameron Green was the standout performer with a well-crafted 79 off 55 balls, featuring seven fours and four sixes. However, the lack of substantial contributions from the rest of the batting lineup prevented KKR from posting a bigger total.
On the bowling front for Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada delivered an impressive spell, picking up three wickets for 29 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Ashok Sharma claimed two wickets each, while Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna took one wicket apiece, restricting KKR at a manageable total.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans have strengthened their standing in the tournament, showcasing resilience and batting depth. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders will look to regroup and address their inconsistencies as they prepare for their upcoming matches.
