Mahtari Vandan Scheme Transforming Lives of Pahadi Korwa Families

Goat rearing emerges as a strong livelihood; gratitude expressed to the Chief Minister

Raipur, April 2026: : The state government’s flagship Mahtari Vandan Scheme is emerging as not just a source of financial support but also a strong foundation for self-reliance among women. It has brought significant positive change in the life of Mrs. Kariyo from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (Pahadi Korwa community). A resident of Ramnagar village in Ambikapur block, she has used the financial assistance from the scheme to improve not only her own future but also the condition of her entire family.

Turning financial aid into a path to self-reliance

Mrs. Kariyo shared that earlier, her family faced severe financial difficulties, struggling even to meet daily expenses. However, after the implementation of the Mahtari Vandan Scheme and the start of regular financial assistance in her account, she chose to invest the money instead of spending it on household needs. She saved the funds and purchased goats, thereby starting a small livestock business.

Economic stability through goat rearing

Speaking about her success, she said, “I bought goats with the scheme money and took care of them for a year. Now I have six goats. They reproduce regularly, and their number continues to grow.” This has provided her with a steady source of income and secured her livelihood.

Improved family well-being and nutrition

With improved financial stability, Mrs. Kariyo is now able to take better care of her husband and grandchildren. She noted that her life has changed significantly. “Earlier, life was very difficult, but now we have better food and a more secure future for the children,” she said emotionally. She added that all of this was made possible due to government support, which once seemed beyond imagination.

Gratitude for the scheme

Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Kariyo thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, stating that the Mahtari Vandan Scheme has given her the opportunity to live with dignity in society. According to her, the scheme is nothing short of a blessing for women in rural and tribal areas, helping them move towards financial independence and a better quality of life.
