Campaigning Peaks in Tamil Nadu as Top Leaders Intensify Push Ahead of Polls

Chennai, April 2026 : With only days remaining for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled on April 23, political campaigning has reached its peak across the state. The campaign will officially end on the evening of April 21, leaving parties with a narrow window to mobilise voters and strengthen their final outreach efforts.

Senior leaders from both the state and the Centre have stepped up their campaigns, travelling extensively across constituencies and addressing a series of rallies and roadshows. Despite the intense summer heat, prominent leaders and Union ministers are actively engaging with voters, highlighting the high stakes involved in the elections.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has deployed its top leadership to energise party workers and directly connect with the electorate in key constituencies. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is leading the campaign push on Sunday with a packed schedule.

Shah is set to address a public meeting in Sivagiri in Erode district, followed by a roadshow in support of the BJP candidate from the Modakurichi Assembly constituency. Later in the day, he will travel to Chennai to participate in a major roadshow in the Mylapore constituency at 4 p.m., campaigning for BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Ahead of the roadshow, Shah is expected to visit the historic Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Mylapore to offer prayers. Authorities have made extensive security arrangements in anticipation of large crowds and the high-profile nature of the visit.

Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is spearheading the NDA’s campaign in southern Tamil Nadu. He is scheduled to address a public gathering in the Radhapuram constituency in Tirunelveli district. Following this, Singh will travel to Puliyangudi in Tenkasi district for further campaigning and is expected to take part in a roadshow at Panagudi.

The NDA’s campaign has already featured prominent appearances by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who have campaigned extensively for alliance candidates in recent days.

With just three days left before polling, the frequent visits by Union ministers underline the strategic importance the NDA is placing on Tamil Nadu. Political observers note that the final phase of campaigning is crucial, as parties attempt to influence undecided voters and maximise turnout.

As the campaign enters its closing stretch, all major parties are leaving no stone unturned, turning the state into a hub of intense political activity. The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with every vote likely to play a decisive role in shaping the outcome.
