Abhishek Sharma’s Century Powers SRH to 242/2 Against Delhi Capitals

Hyderabad, April 2026 : Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a batting masterclass as a sensational century from Abhishek Sharma propelled them to a formidable 242/2 against Delhi Capitals in Match 31 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Abhishek’s innings stood out not just for its aggression but for its remarkable composure and timing. The left-hander reached his half-century in just 25 balls and went on to bring up his ninth T20 hundred in only 47 deliveries. He began cautiously, assessing the conditions, before unleashing a calculated assault that dismantled the opposition attack. By the 15th over, he had overtaken teammate Heinrich Klaasen to emerge as the leading run-scorer of the season, underlining his dominance at the top of the order.

Delhi Capitals initially attempted to disrupt the flow by introducing Nitish Rana’s off-spin early in the powerplay, targeting SRH’s left-handed opening pair. Rana’s disciplined first over conceded just six runs as SRH crawled to 15 without loss after two overs. However, the strategy quickly lost its effectiveness once the batters found their rhythm.

When Rana returned for another spell with SRH at 36/0, the momentum had already shifted. The fifth over proved expensive, yielding three sixes and pushing the total to 56 without loss. Abhishek took charge, dispatching a full toss from Lungi Ngidi over mid-off and racing to 21 off just 12 deliveries.

Alongside Travis Head, Abhishek stitched together a fluent opening partnership. The duo dominated the powerplay, guiding SRH to 67/0 and setting a strong platform. The final ball of the fielding restrictions also marked SRH’s 70th six of the season, surpassing the previous benchmark set by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Head contributed a brisk 37 off 26 balls before falling to skipper Axar Patel at 97/1 in 8.5 overs. Attempting to accelerate further, Head miscued a long hop to deep midwicket. However, his dismissal did little to slow down SRH’s charge.

Abhishek continued his onslaught, now joined by Ishan Kishan, as the pair tore into the Delhi bowling attack. Spin spearhead Kuldeep Yadav was taken apart in the middle overs, conceding boundaries at regular intervals. Kishan’s innovative sweeps combined with Abhishek’s clean hitting powered SRH to 126/1 in 11 overs.

Despite conditions that could have favoured reverse swing, Delhi’s seamers struggled to extract any assistance. Bowlers like Mukesh Kumar failed to find movement, allowing the SRH batters to dictate terms with ease.

Abhishek remained the centerpiece of the innings, eventually finishing with a stunning 135-run knock that anchored one of the highest totals of the season. His innings blended patience with explosive stroke play, ensuring SRH maintained a relentless scoring rate throughout.

Sunrisers Hyderabad ultimately posted an imposing 242/2 in their allotted 20 overs, leaving Delhi Capitals with a daunting chase ahead in what promises to be a high-scoring contest.
