Maharashtra Emerging as a ‘Global Investment Hub’ Due to Industry-Friendly Policies: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, April 2026: Maharashtra is the growth engine of the country and remains the most preferred destination for foreign investors, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, expressing confidence that the state is steadily emerging as a “global investment hub” due to its industry-friendly policies.

The remarks were made during a courtesy meeting between Denmark’s Ambassador to India, Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, and the Chief Minister at his official residence ‘Varsha’ in Mumbai. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, was also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, discussions were held on a range of topics, including investment opportunities in Maharashtra, port development, shipping, energy, and water management. The Danish delegation also included First Secretary (Trade Policy and Economic Affairs) Mathias Emil Bengtson and Deputy Consul General of the Royal Danish Consulate in Mumbai, Kannan Natarajan.

Highlighting the state’s ambitious infrastructure initiatives, Fadnavis briefed the delegation about the proposed Vadhavan Port project. He said the project has the potential to transform Maharashtra—and India—into a global maritime powerhouse, significantly boosting logistics capabilities and exports.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the state government’s plans to strengthen water transport systems. He said Maharashtra is working on an ambitious water taxi project, which aims to enhance urban mobility and coastal connectivity. Emphasis will be placed on developing a comprehensive system supported by efficient regulatory and control mechanisms.

Fadnavis further noted that the state government is keen to collaborate with leading Danish companies for adopting advanced technologies, particularly in electric ferries and electric water taxis. Such partnerships, he said, would play a crucial role in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transport solutions.

Ambassador Kristensen shared insights into Denmark’s successful use of electric technology in coastal regions and short-distance ferry services. He said similar solutions could be effectively implemented along the Mumbai–Konkan coastline, offering both environmental and economic benefits.

He also pointed out that around 60 Danish companies are already operating in and around Mumbai and Pune across sectors such as manufacturing, retail, services, and shipping. This, he noted, reflects the strong and growing economic ties between India and Denmark.

The meeting also touched upon opportunities under the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, which focuses on sustainable development, clean energy, and climate-friendly technologies. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in these areas.

The interaction highlighted Maharashtra’s proactive approach in attracting global investments while simultaneously prioritising sustainability and innovation. The Chief Minister reiterated that the state is committed to creating a conducive ecosystem for international businesses and fostering long-term partnerships that contribute to economic growth and environmental responsibility.
