Maharashtra Offers Major Investment Opportunities to Amazon, Says Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, June 2026 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has invited global technology giant Amazon to expand its presence in the state, highlighting significant investment opportunities in data centres, healthcare infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI)-based skill development, and emerging technology sectors.

The Chief Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy at the Taj Palace Hotel in Mumbai, where both sides discussed the vast investment potential available in Maharashtra.

Senior officials present at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Lokesh Chandra, Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse, Industries Principal Secretary P. Anbalagan, Development Commissioner (Industries) Kadambari Balkawade, AWS India Country Head Sandeep Dutta, Amazon Global India Country Head Sameer Kumar, AWS Public Policy Director Vikram Sridharan, and Amazon Global Vice President Dharmesh Mehta.

Addressing the delegation, Chief Minister Fadnavis said Maharashtra has emerged as the country’s leading destination for economic growth and technology-driven development. He noted that the state’s economy is currently valued at approximately USD 660 billion and is on track to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030.

“Maharashtra has already crossed more than half of its targeted economic milestone. We are creating a robust ecosystem for the expansion of data centres and digital infrastructure, making the state the data centre capital of India,” he said.

The Chief Minister emphasised that Maharashtra is actively integrating artificial intelligence into governance and public service delivery. AI-driven solutions are being deployed across key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure to improve efficiency and provide citizens with easier access to government services.

Fadnavis also underlined the importance of preparing the workforce for a rapidly evolving technological landscape. He noted that artificial intelligence is transforming employment patterns worldwide, making skill development in emerging technologies increasingly critical.

“Maharashtra is keen to collaborate with Amazon in the field of AI-based skill development. The state has a strong ecosystem to support training programmes that can help build future-ready talent,” he said.

Highlighting the state’s industrial strengths, the Chief Minister pointed out that Maharashtra remains India’s leading hub for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He said AI-enabled training and innovation programmes could significantly enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs and accelerate their digital transformation.

Fadnavis further noted that Maharashtra continues to expand incentives and facilities for data centre investments. He highlighted that the state was the first in India to introduce a Public Cloud Policy, under which the government has already collaborated with Amazon on cloud-based initiatives.

To strengthen its digital infrastructure ecosystem, Maharashtra has also introduced a dedicated Data Centre Policy, with a strong focus on promoting Green Data Centres. The policy encourages the use of renewable energy sources instead of conventional power and offers incentives for environmentally sustainable investments.

The Chief Minister also showcased opportunities in the healthcare sector, citing the upcoming MediCity project in Navi Mumbai, which aims to create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem encompassing hospitals, research facilities, medical education, and allied services.

“Projects such as MediCity offer significant opportunities for Amazon to explore investments in healthcare and health-tech sectors as well,” Fadnavis said.

The meeting reflects Maharashtra’s ongoing efforts to attract global investment and strengthen its position as a leading destination for technology, innovation, digital infrastructure, and sustainable economic growth.
