Madhya Pradesh is Revitalizing Cultural and Historical Heritage: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is giving new energy to its rich cultural and historical heritage. On the occasion of the 168th death anniversary of Raja Hirdeshah Lodhi, he said that through the Shaurya Yatra, forgotten heroes who first organised resistance against British rule are being brought back into public consciousness. Raja Hirdeshah, also known as the ‘Tiger of Narmada’, was a superhero of the 1842 uprising. His tales of valour continue to resonate through the traditions, folk songs, and collective memory of Bundela, Lodhi, and tribal communities. The Chief Minister said his life remains a source of inspiration and an ideal for all.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadave emphasised the need to remember the struggles of great personalities, stating that society always honours those who stand strong in adversity. The state government will promote research on Raja Hirdeshah’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle, and important aspects of his life will be included in academic curricula. A pilgrimage site will also be developed in Heerapur, on the banks of the Narmada, in his honour.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing a grand event and the Shaurya Yatra held at Jamboree Ground to commemorate the legacy of Raja Hirdeshah Lodhi. Representatives of the community felicitated the Chief Minister for announcing research initiatives and inclusion of Raja Hirdeshah’s contributions in academic curricula.

State Government Promoting Heritage and Honouring Great Personalities

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Lodhi community symbolises valour and the tradition of farmer-warriors. Growing British interference, heavy taxation and the exploitation of farmers compelled Raja Hirdeshah to launch a revolt. He stated that Raja Hirdeshah’s story is not just about war but also about unity, courage and patriotism. His message for today’s youth is clear: standing against injustice is the duty of every Indian.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that the state government is continuously undertaking initiatives to honor heritage and great personalities. A state university has been established in Sagar in the name of Rani Avantibai. Traditional festivals are being celebrated with enthusiasm, and the state has declared a Krishak Kalyan Year for farmers’ welfare. He also mentioned that a research institute has been established on Samrat Vikramaditya, and that grand, fully equipped Gita Bhavans are being constructed in every urban body. Additionally, Vrindavan Grams are being developed in each block to promote cultural rejuvenation.

Youth must become Courageous, Capable, Educated and Value-Oriented

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Prahlad Singh Patel said the event is an occasion to remember the sacrifices of ancestors. He emphasised that, alongside education, youth must also embrace strong values. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to remember unsung heroes of the freedom struggle, he stated that the period from the 1842 Bundeli uprising led by Raja Hirdeshah to the 1942 Quit India Movement represents a crucial century in India’s history. Minister Shri Patel stated that Raja Hirdeshah continued his struggle against British rule from 1842 to 1858, and also remembered Raja Mehrban Singh, who never lost a battle. He urged youth from the Lodhi community to become courageous, capable, educated and value-driven.

Raja Hirdeshah Sparked the First Call for Freedom in 1842

Culture and Tourism Minister Shri Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi said that Raja Hirdeshah sounded the first call for independence in 1842, well before the 1857 uprising, and sacrificed his life for the nation. He urged that Raja Hirdeshah’s contributions be included in academic curricula.

Revered Dada Guru highlighted that the first organised uprising of the freedom movement began on the banks of the Narmada in 1842 under the leadership of Raja Hirdeshah. He appealed to people to walk the path of Sanatan Dharma and contribute to the vision of a united India. Need to Raise Awareness Among Youth Against Substance Abuse

State President of the Lodhi-Lodha community and former MLA Shri Jalam Singh Patel said that Raja Hirdeshah led the 1842 uprising against British laws, during which around 12 of his brothers were martyred and his entire property was confiscated. He emphasised that the Lodhi community, known for its farmer-warrior tradition, has launched a campaign against substance abuse and urged youth to actively participate in it.
