Inauguration of Power System Simulation Laboratory by Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar, May 2026 : Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), inaugurated a state-of-the-art Power System Simulation Laboratory today at the Power Training Centre (PTC), Chandaka, Bhubaneswar. The facility was inaugurated by Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Energy and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, in the presence of Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, OPTCL.

The newly commissioned laboratory is designed to strengthen the technical capability of OPTCL in power system planning, grid management, and operational reliability. Equipped with advanced simulation tools, the lab will enable engineers to model complex grid scenarios, analyze load flow, study system stability, and simulate fault conditions in real time. This will help OPTCL in ensuring a more resilient, efficient, and future-ready transmission network, critical for meeting Odisha’s growing energy demands and integrating renewable energy sources.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri K V Singh Deo said, A robust transmission network is the backbone of a developed Odisha. The Power System Simulation Laboratory will empower our engineers to anticipate challenges, optimize grid operations, and ensure 24×7 quality power supply to industries, agriculture, and households. This initiative reflects our Government’s commitment to building a modern, reliable, and technology-driven power sector in line with the vision of Viksit Odisha.

Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, CMD, OPTCL, stated that the lab will serve as a centre of excellence for capacity building, research, and innovation in power system studies. It will provide hands-on training to OPTCL and SLDC engineers, support data-driven decision making, and enhance our preparedness for grid contingencies, he added.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Shri B.B Mehta, Director (SLDC), Shri Prasanta Kumar Pattanaik, Director (Operation), Shri Pradeep Kumar Dash, Director (Projects), Shri Srikanta Kumar Sahoo, Director (Finance), and Ms. Anita Mahapatra, CGM (HRD) gave a vote of thanks, along with senior officials, engineers, and staff of OPTCL.
