Delhi Capitals Post 155/7, Set 156-Run Target in Tight Contest
Delhi, May 2026 : Delhi Capitals put up a modest total of 155 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first, setting a target of 156 for Chennai Super Kings in a closely fought encounter.
The innings never quite gained sustained momentum, with regular wickets halting progress despite a late flourish. The middle overs saw disciplined bowling from Chennai, restricting boundaries and preventing any major partnerships from developing. Batsmen like Sameer Rizvi showed brief promise, but none managed to convert their starts into significant contributions.
A late surge came from Ashutosh Sharma, who injected life into the innings in the final over. He smashed 14 runs off just five balls, including two towering sixes, pushing the total to a competitive level. However, his aggressive effort ended dramatically as he was run out on the final delivery while attempting a quick single. A sharp throw from Ruturaj Gaikwad at mid-on caught him well short of the crease.
Chennai’s bowlers executed their plans effectively, particularly in the death overs. Anshul Kamboj’s pinpoint yorkers in the final over limited Delhi’s scoring opportunities, even as a few big hits were conceded.
With 156 on the board, the total appears competitive but not daunting. The outcome will likely depend on how Delhi’s bowlers utilise pitch conditions and whether they can strike early to put pressure on the chasing side.
