From Darkness to Light: Good Governance Brings Hope into the Lives of Krishna and Anita
Raipur, May 2026 : When determination is strong and supported by responsive governance, even physical challenges cannot stop the path of progress. The story of Krishna Pahadi Korwa and his wife Anita, residents of Govindpur (Sargadi) village in Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh, has today become a living example of good governance and sensitivity towards the underprivileged. Belonging to a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), the visually impaired couple now reflects the government’s commitment to reaching development benefits to the last person in society.
A House of Hope Handed Over by the Prime Minister
The most significant turning point in the lives of Krishna and Anita came during the silver jubilee celebrations of Chhattisgarh’s statehood in 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally handed over the keys of their newly constructed permanent house built under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural).
For the couple, the house was not merely a concrete structure but a symbol of dignity, security and hope after years of hardship and uncertainty. Through a combination of their own efforts and government assistance, they were able to build not only a home but also a secure foundation for their future.
MGNREGA Becomes a Path to Self-Reliance
Along with secure housing, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has become the biggest support system for the family’s financial independence. Despite being visually impaired, Krishna and Anita refused to give up and continued working with determination.
At MGNREGA worksites, the couple performs the task of providing drinking water to labourers. During the financial year 2024-25, they received 86 days of employment, while in the current financial year they have already completed 14 days of work. This employment has enabled them to meet their daily needs without depending on others.
For Krishna and Anita, good governance is not limited to receiving government aid; it represents an opportunity to live with dignity and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Government Welfare Schemes Transform Their Lives
Multiple welfare schemes of the government have created a strong social security network around the family. Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, they receive food grains regularly. The Ayushman Bharat card has provided them health security and relieved them from worries related to medical treatment.
Additionally, disability pension support has ensured continuous financial assistance and social protection for the couple.
The story of Krishna and Anita — “From Darkness to Light” — symbolises the positive impact of good governance. It demonstrates how government schemes, transparency and accountability can transform the lives of ordinary citizens and bring hope to those who need it the most.
