06 Killed In Israeli Attacks On Lebanon; Hours After US Brokered Ceasefire Extended.

Beirut; May 2026: At least 06 people, including three paramedics, have been killed in Israeli attacks according to Lebanese state media; with 37 wounded. The “raids” came hours after the US said Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their ceasefire by 45 days.

Tommy Pigott, the US State Department’s spokesperson, said the “cessation of hostilities” on 16th April has been extended, with the department set to “reconvene the political track of negotiations” on 02nd and 03rd June. A 45-day extension to the Israel and Lebanon ceasefire has been agreed to enable further progress, the US state department said today.

It comes as the Israeli military’s Arabic spokesperson sent out an urgent alert to Lebanese residents in the city of Tyre, accusing the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has marked a section of the city in red and residents within that area have been told to “evacuate immediately” and stay at least 300 metres away. However, on the otherside, as per Israeli official sources – Israel is preparing for the imminent renewal of the war against Iran.

Lebanon’s health ministry said that at least 06 people were killed and another 37 injured in “raids” on towns in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district. Among the injured are at least 04 children, 09 women and 01 Canadian national. At least 06 medical staff from Hiram Hospital have also been wounded.

Lebanon’s delegation in Washington has welcomed today’s 45-day ceasefire extension, announced by the US state department. In a statement, the delegation said it advances a “political pathway toward lasting stability. Lebanon will continue to engage constructively in negotiations while safeguarding its sovereignty and protecting the safety of its people”, it added.

“The delegation reaffirms its unwavering commitment to reaching an agreement that fully restores Lebanon’s national sovereignty and guarantees the safety and return of all its citizens”. It said its ‘objective’ was to transform the momentum of the ceasefire into a “comprehensive and lasting agreement”.

Israel’s ambassador to the US is “looking forward to the next steps” his country and Lebanon agreed to a 45-day ceasefire extension. “The peace talks were frank and constructive and are set to move forward on two tracks: security and political”, Yechiel Leiter said in a post on X where he shared the US announcement of the agreement. “There will be ups and downs, but the potential for success is great. What will be paramount throughout negotiations is the security of our citizens and our soldiers”, he said.
