Karanja Port to Be Developed as the Largest Fishing Harbor in the Country – DCM Fadnavis

Raigad : The construction of a fishing port at Karanja in Raigad district, with a capacity to accommodate one thousand fishing boats, will be expedited with an allocation of ₹153 crores. Additionally, a state-of-the-art jetty will be built as part of efforts to develop Karanja Port into the largest fishing harbor in the country, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis made these remarks while inaugurating the new administrative building of Uran Municipal Council, Savitribai Phule Full Market, Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhawan and Community Development Center, and Uran Town Hall. He also laid the foundation stone for the Upazila Hospital and fish market at Uran Charphata in a ceremony held in Uran today.

The event was attended by Industry Minister and Guardian Minister of Raigad District Uday Samant, former Raigad MP Ramsheth Thakur, Maval MP Shrirang Barne, MLA Prashant Thakur, MLA Ravindra Patil, MLA Mahesh Baldi, Collector Kishan Javale, and Chief Executive Officer of Raigad Zilla Parishad Dr. Bharat Bastewad, among others.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the impact of the Nhava-Shivdi Atal Setu on the development of the district, emphasizing that Raigad is poised to become a major industrial hub in the future, creating significant opportunities. He also noted that the Navi Mumbai Airport will boost GDP by 1%, and that Raigad and Navi Mumbai have become key data hubs, housing 60% of the country’s data center capacity. As such, Raigad district is emerging as the growth engine of Maharashtra.

The development of Karanja Port is intended to advance the interests of fishermen by enhancing export capacity and integrating the region into the global supply chain, Fadnavis stated. He praised MLA Mahesh Baldi for his creative and high-quality development work in the constituency, assuring that sufficient funds and support will be provided for ongoing and future projects in Uran.

Guardian Minister Uday Samant also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the efforts being made to resolve the issues faced by fishermen and the prioritization of comprehensive development work in Uran. He assured that funds for Uran’s development would be allocated through the district’s annual planning.

The event also included a large turnout of citizens, officials, and various dignitaries. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis inspected the new administrative building as part of the day’s proceedings.
