Revanth Reddy Demands Special Parliament Session on Women’s Reservation, Pays Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi
Hyderabad, May 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Centre to convene an immediate special session of Parliament to take up the long-pending issue of 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
Addressing the media after paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, the Chief Minister said the INDIA bloc is fully prepared to support the women’s reservation bill in Parliament and ensure its passage without delay.
Revanth Reddy accused the Union government of creating procedural hurdles in the implementation of women’s reservation by linking it to the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies. He insisted that the issue should not be politicised and must be treated as a national commitment toward gender equality and political empowerment.
He stressed that women’s reservation in legislatures should be implemented in the spirit of Rajiv Gandhi’s vision, recalling that the former Prime Minister had pioneered the introduction of reservations for women in local bodies, which transformed grassroots democracy in India.
Paying glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister described him as a great national leader who sacrificed his life for the country. He said Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary who brought information technology to India and placed the country on a global development trajectory through progressive and liberalised policies.
“It was Rajiv Gandhi who ushered in the era of technology in the country and gave India global recognition in the IT sector,” Revanth Reddy said.
He further noted that the INDIA bloc remains committed to strengthening democratic representation for women and stands ready to support any initiative that ensures their rightful participation in legislative processes.
Revanth Reddy also reiterated that the Telangana “People’s Government” is committed to inclusive governance and empowerment of all sections of society, especially women, in line with progressive national values.
He said the demand for women’s reservation is not just a political issue but a matter of social justice and democratic strengthening that requires immediate action from the Centre.
