Decision taken to establish new residential schools to promote girls’ education
Lucknow, May 2026 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a major transformation in basic education, with a comprehensive campaign underway to convert council schools into modern, smart, and technology-driven learning centers rather than merely focusing on buildings and enrolment.
Government schools, once known for dilapidated infrastructure and lack of basic amenities, are now building a new identity under the ‘Yogi Model’.
One of the major achievements of the Yogi government, ‘Operation Kayakalp’, has significantly transformed the condition of council schools across the state. So far, 1.32 lakh schools have been covered under the campaign.
While the saturation level of schools stood at only 36 percent in 2017-18, it has now increased to 96.30 percent. This change is now clearly visible in government schools located in villages across the state.
Efforts are being expedited to provide 3.42 lakh desk-benches to ensure better seating arrangements for students in schools.
Alongside this, a special plan is being implemented to develop all primary schools as smart schools, enabling children in rural areas to access technology-based education.
The Yogi government is now placing special emphasis on linking council education with a modern and holistic education model.
In this regard, it has been decided to establish two Chief Minister Model Composite Schools in each of the state’s 75 districts.
Out of the proposed 150 Chief Minister Model Composite Schools, which will operate from pre-primary to Class 12, the process of land selection has been completed for 141 schools.
These schools will be equipped with modern classrooms, digital learning resources, smart classes, laboratories, and sports facilities, ensuring that students in government schools receive facilities comparable to those in private institutions.
In addition, 75 Chief Minister Abhyudaya Composite Schools are also being developed, where children from pre-primary to Class 8 will receive quality education with modern facilities.
The Yogi government has also taken a major step to strengthen girls’ education.
It has been decided to establish new residential girls’ schools in development blocks where Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Schools are not available. This initiative will provide daughters from remote and underprivileged areas with a safe and improved educational environment.
The rapid transformation of council schools in Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a major model for the country.
The Yogi government’s strategy is no longer limited to merely opening schools, but is focused on converting government schools into modern, technology-based, and result-oriented education centers.
Through digital education, smart schools, model composite schools, and expansion of basic infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly moving toward establishing a new national identity in basic education.
