Public money will be spent only in public interest: CM Yogi

CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated/launched 342 projects worth Rs 413 crore of Lucknow Municipal Corporation, released booklet related to Clean-Beautiful-Capable Lucknow

Expressed gratitude to the public, said people gave BJP the Mayor seats in all 17 Municipal Corporations

Took time to fill the pits of sins of previous govts and clean the garbage of corruption: Chief Minister

Lucknow, May 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to the people of the state and said that for the first time, the public gave BJP the Mayor seats in all 17 Municipal Corporations. BJP formed boards in all Municipal Corporations. As a result, the Municipal Corporations established several benchmarks in the last 3 years and presented a model of development and cleanliness.

He added, “Time was also spent in filling the pits of sins of previous governments and cleaning the garbage of corruption. The money spent on development belongs to the public. Neither the Chief Minister nor ministers are giving it, rather they are only ensuring its proper planning. Public money will be spent only in public interest. This is the vision and inspiration of PM Modi ji.”

On completion of 3 years of the Mayor’s tenure in the Municipal Corporation, the Chief Minister on Tuesday gifted development projects to the people of Lucknow. At a program organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the CM inaugurated/launched 342 projects worth Rs 413 crore and released a booklet related to Clean-Beautiful-Capable Lucknow. A short film was also screened on the occasion.
CM congratulated the Mayors of all 17 Municipal Corporations, Chairpersons of 200 Municipal Councils, 545 Nagar Panchayats and around 14,000 councillors on completion of three years of tenure.

CM Yogi stated, “Lucknow Municipal Corporation secured the third position in the country in cleanliness rankings and now it has to be brought to the first position. This is not only the responsibility of the Mayor, councillors or sanitation workers, but the responsibility of every citizen. Household waste should be thrown only in dustbins, wet and dry waste should be separated, single-use plastic should not be used, garbage should not be thrown into drains and public property should not be damaged.”

He added by saying, people say Lucknow is very clean, and when the functioning of the government is clean, such results are visible. Ministers, Mayor, councillors, the entire executive body, officers, supervisors and sanitation workers all work together, and cleanliness becomes visible.
The CM also took a dig at people arriving in cars worth Rs 2.5 crore and stealing flower pots, saying CCTV cameras are installed everywhere. Had they purchased a flower pot worth Rs 45, both their dignity and the beauty of the city would have remained intact.

CM Yogi cited the example of Rashtriya Prerna Sthal and informed, “A place where garbage had been dumped for 30 years has now become an excellent site. Statues of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been installed there.”
The CM mentioned the personalities and contributions of all three great leaders towards the nation. He said that today Lucknow has not only Rashtriya Prerna Sthal but also Green Corridor, Metro and every kind of public facility.

CM stated, “Before 2017, under the SP government, no houses were sanctioned for the poor. Their schemes were not meant for the poor or youth. Without seeing face, caste, region or religion, the government worked by keeping the four castes of the nation (poor, youth, women and farmers) at the centre. More than 65 lakh poor people were provided houses in urban and rural areas. Earlier governments used to think only for their families, and therefore they failed. SP goons were the biggest threat to women’s safety. During the SP government, benefits of government schemes were limited to select families, whereas Modi ji considered the people of the country as family, the double-engine government considered 25 crore people of the state as family and the Municipal Corporation considered the entire region as family.”

Calling Lucknow the largest metropolis and Municipal Corporation of the state, the CM said that the bigger the responsibility, the bigger the challenges, but Lucknow and the state are facing challenges effectively. Replying to those indulging in negative politics and questioning positive initiatives, the he said that in 3 years in Municipal Corporations, 9 years in the state and 12 years under the leadership of PM Modi, development programs have set new benchmarks. BJP governments at the municipal, state and national levels have delivered something new.

He said our cities are clean, beautiful and safe from the perspective of ease of living. Lucknow Municipal Corporation issued bonds worth more than Rs 200 crore last year, whereas before 2017 the value of bonds here was not even Rs 25 crore.

CM Yogi stated, “The energy crisis has become global. Due to the America-Iran war, supply lines have been disrupted. Oil prices are skyrocketing in many parts of the world. Even in America, which has its own energy resources, petroleum product prices have more than doubled. Inflation is at its peak, but under the leadership of PM Modi, India has continuously controlled it. If petroleum product prices rise globally and supply chains are disrupted, its impact will also be felt here, but instead of standing with the nation during crisis, trying to put the country in the dock reflects an unhealthy mentality.”

He also said, due to the sudden rise in heat, several thermal power plants took sudden shutdowns, affecting production. Till 2017, peak power supply in UP used to remain around 15-16 thousand megawatts, whereas today it has reached 32-33 thousand megawatts. At that time, production was 6 thousand megawatts, while today 13 thousand megawatts of electricity is being produced. Renewable energy production has increased to nearly 10 thousand megawatts, but the requirement is 33-35 thousand megawatts.

In view of the LPG crisis, people are also using electric heaters for cooking. The country’s problem is everyone’s problem. He appealed to people not to fall for anyone’s misleading propaganda and to consume electricity only as per need.

CM stated, “Those spreading rumours are not well-wishers of the country. When they were in power, they did not work in the interest of the common people. They looted the rights of women, farmers, the poor and youth. The CM listed development schemes of the last 9 years, beneficiaries and the number of youth who got government jobs and employment.”

He said SP, BSP and Congress did not do this because their agenda revolved only around family and nepotism. We worked for the welfare of all, therefore we succeeded and they failed.

CM Yogi said, people should fulfil their civic duties, face challenges and not accept the opposition narrative. Those pointing fingers at the energy crisis are the same people during whose tenure clothes used to be dried on electricity wires because there was no electricity supply. During SP rule, electricity was not available, whereas now full electricity is being supplied. The department is working continuously.

He said he himself has held review meetings. Every citizen should stand with the Power Corporation and cooperate in facing the crisis. Criticism alone will not help; support is necessary. The double-engine government will find solutions to every problem.

CM informed, the Municipal Corporation is a platform for resolving citizens’ problems. After 100 years, a grand Municipal Corporation building is being constructed. A model cowshed is also being developed where examples of cow protection, CNG production, composting, natural farming and converting waste into wealth will be presented. The Municipal Corporation’s Integrated Command and Control Centre is functioning effectively. It is an excellent platform for traffic management, cleanliness and monitoring development activities.

He added, “The CM Grid Scheme will become a model for the country in the coming time. Earlier, urban areas used to get waterlogged after just one hour of rainfall, but the Municipal Corporation and Urban Development Department have prepared an excellent plan to solve stormwater problems. Approval has been granted for a convention centre for 10,000 people in Lucknow and its tender process has been completed.”

CM said, many models are going to be established and to take them to greater heights of success, contributions from public representatives and the people of Lucknow are essential.
He added, instead of becoming barriers in development schemes, if positive cooperation is extended to take them to new heights, future generations will express gratitude. The better the expansion and facilities in urban local bodies, the faster the state will move towards achieving the one trillion dollar economy goal.

On this occasion, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal welcomed the guests. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Brajlal, MLAs O.P. Srivastava and Yogesh Shukla, Legislative Council Members Lal Ji Prasad Nirmal and Mukesh Sharma, BJP leader Sunil Bharala and others were present at the ceremony.
