Telangana HC Declines Urgent Hearing on Jana Sena Rally Plea; Pawan Kalyan Addresses Media Instead
Hyderabad, June 2026 : The Telangana High Court on Tuesday declined to entertain an urgent House Motion petition filed by the Jana Sena Party seeking permission to hold a public meeting in Hyderabad on Telangana Formation Day, dealing a setback to the party’s plans for a major political gathering in the city.
The petition was filed after the Cyberabad Police denied permission for Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to conduct the proposed “Telangana Nava Nirmana Sankalpa Sabha” on June 2. However, the High Court ruled that the matter did not warrant urgent consideration under a House Motion and refused to take it up for immediate hearing.
The proposed meeting was scheduled to be held at Sandhya Convention in Gachibowli from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with an expected attendance of around 2,000 people. The event was planned to coincide with Telangana State Formation Day and was intended to highlight the party’s vision for the state’s future development.
Following the court’s decision, Pawan Kalyan announced that he would instead address the media from his residence in Jubilee Hills. In a post on social media platform X, he said he would hold a press conference between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. and expressed hope that the Telangana Police would at least permit the interaction with Jana Sena leaders.
“I will address a press meet at my home in Jubilee Hills today between 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. I hope the Telangana Police Department at least gives me permission to do a press meet with JSP leaders. Let’s see,” he wrote.
On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, Pawan Kalyan extended greetings to the people of the state and reiterated the party’s commitment to Telangana’s progress. He remarked that Jana Sena was born on the soil of Telangana and had inherited the spirit of struggle and resilience associated with the statehood movement.
The Jana Sena chief said the party remained dedicated to fulfilling the aspirations of Telangana’s people, safeguarding their self-respect and contributing to the state’s comprehensive development. He emphasised that the party would continue to work towards achieving the goals envisioned by the people who fought for Telangana’s formation.
Cyberabad Police had rejected the party’s application on Monday. In a communication to Jana Sena General Secretary Talluri Ram, Serilingampally Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police CH. Srinivas stated that permission was being denied in the interest of maintaining law and order, public peace and tranquillity.
The decision triggered criticism from Jana Sena leaders, who questioned the grounds cited by the police. In a statement posted on X, the party argued that the reasons given for denying permission appeared to be excuses rather than genuine security concerns.
The party specifically questioned how remarks made by a political analyst and responses to those remarks could be interpreted as a threat to law and order across Telangana. According to Jana Sena, the explanation lacked convincing justification for preventing the event.
Despite the setback, party leaders in Telangana marked the state’s Formation Day by organising celebrations at the Jana Sena state office in Kukatpally. Leaders paid tributes to those who sacrificed their lives during the Telangana movement and expressed hope for the state’s continued progress across all sectors.
The leaders also conveyed their best wishes to the people of Telangana, reaffirming the party’s commitment to the state’s development and welfare.
