ECI Deputy Director Apurva Kumar Singh Visits Mizoram; Reviews SIR 2026 Media and Communication Preparedness

Aizawl, June 2026: As part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, ECI Deputy Director Shri Apurva Kumar Singh, IIS, arrived in Mizoram today on an official visit.

During his visit, Shri Singh met with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Mizoram, Smt. Garima Gupta, IAS, at the CEO’s Office in Aizawl. Following the meeting, he conducted a training session on media and communication for District Media Nodal Officers (DMNOs) from across the state at the MINECO Secretariat Conference Hall, Aizawl.

The session focused on communication strategies related to the Special Intensive Revision, key challenges that may arise during its implementation, and measures to strengthen public awareness and participation.

The programme was chaired by Mizoram Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Smt. Ethel Rothangpuii, who reminded the officers of the important role they play in ensuring the success of the revision exercise. She encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

Addressing the participants, Shri Apurva Kumar Singh stated that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that all eligible Indian citizens aged 18 years and above are included in the electoral roll, while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. He emphasized that effective public outreach and awareness are essential to the success of the revision process and urged the officers to give due importance to publicity and documentation activities.

District Media Nodal Officers and District Media Assistant Nodal Officers also presented updates on the activities undertaken so far and outlined their proposed plans for the coming weeks.

During the training, Shri Singh presented the Media and Communication Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and explained various methods for effectively communicating SIR-related information to the public and publicising important procedures. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment.

Shri Apurva Kumar Singh is scheduled to visit an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) office tomorrow and oversee the distribution of Enumeration Forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). He is also scheduled to address a press conference in the afternoon.
