Chief Minister Reviews Home Department; Orders Crackdown on Drug Networks and Illegal Assets of Traffickers

Jaipur, June 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma chaired a high-level meeting of the Home Department on Wednesday and directed officials to take the strictest possible legal action against drug trafficking syndicates operating in the state. Emphasising the need to dismantle the financial backbone of the narcotics trade, he instructed authorities to seize, attach, and demolish illegally acquired properties belonging to drug mafias. He also called for stringent action against suspected traffickers under the provisions of the PITNDPS Act.

Presiding over the meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, Sharma said that all networks linked to the narcotics trade, whether large or small, must be completely dismantled. He stressed the importance of enhancing surveillance and vigilance in border areas to effectively curb smuggling activities, including the use of drones for transporting contraband and other illegal goods.

The Chief Minister directed District Collectors and Superintendents of Police in border districts to maintain close watch on suspicious activities and ensure swift action through better coordination among agencies. He underlined that strengthening security measures in sensitive regions is essential to preventing cross-border crime and safeguarding public safety.

Statewide Awareness Campaign Against Drug Abuse

Sharma described drug addiction as the root cause of many crimes and highlighted its long-term adverse impact on society and families. He instructed officials to launch a comprehensive statewide awareness campaign against substance abuse and involve social organisations, community groups, and other stakeholders in transforming the anti-drug initiative into a mass movement.

He further emphasised the importance of active participation by women in the campaign, noting that their involvement could play a crucial role in spreading awareness and strengthening community resistance against drug abuse.

Strict Action Against Illegal Vehicle Modifications

The Chief Minister also directed the police, administrative authorities, and the transport department to jointly conduct enforcement drives against illegal vehicle modifications, which are often used to facilitate the transportation of narcotics and other unlawful activities.

He pointed out that criminals frequently exploit modified vehicles to evade law enforcement agencies. Such vehicles, he added, not only aid illegal activities but also pose a significant threat to road safety.

To tackle the issue effectively, Sharma instructed officials to intensify both enforcement and public awareness efforts across the state. He called for strict action against vehicles displaying unauthorised symbols and those using black films or other opaque materials on windows beyond the permissible limits prescribed by law.

According to the Chief Minister, eliminating such violations will help strengthen law enforcement efforts while improving road safety and public security.

Senior Officials Present

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Akhil Arora, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Bhaskar A. Sawant, and other senior government officials.

The review meeting focused on strengthening law and order, intensifying the fight against drug trafficking, improving coordination among enforcement agencies, and ensuring strict compliance with regulations aimed at maintaining public safety across Rajasthan.
