Iran Warns of Military Response if Israel Attacks Beirut, Says Lebanon’s Security Is Linked to Tehran
Tehran, June 2026 : Iran has issued a strong warning against any potential Israeli military action targeting Beirut, declaring that an attack on the Lebanese capital could reignite a broader regional conflict. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has conveyed its position to all relevant parties, making it clear that it would not tolerate an assault on Beirut.
In an interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al Mayadeen on Wednesday, Araghchi stated that Iran’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond if Israel launches strikes against the Lebanese capital. He emphasized that Tehran views the security and stability of Lebanon as closely tied to its own national interests and warned that any escalation could push the region back into war.
The Iranian foreign minister accused Israel of violating ceasefire arrangements in both Iran and Lebanon in recent days. According to Araghchi, Tehran believes that the ongoing conflicts involving the two countries are interconnected and that any sustainable ceasefire or political settlement must address both fronts simultaneously.
Araghchi stressed that Iran continues to pursue peace and regional stability but only on terms that preserve what he described as the country’s dignity and national honour. While reiterating that Tehran does not seek war, he maintained that Iranian military forces remain on high alert and possess the capability to resume combat operations if circumstances require.
The minister also provided an update on diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States. He said indirect communications between the two countries have continued through the exchange of messages, although no major breakthrough has been achieved so far. According to him, both sides are currently reviewing proposals and draft texts aimed at reaching a final agreement.
Over recent weeks, Iran and the United States have reportedly exchanged several peace proposals through mediation efforts led by Pakistan. Diplomatic sources suggest that discussions have focused on the possibility of a memorandum of understanding designed to end hostilities and create a framework for a broader peace process.
However, tensions surrounding the negotiations have intensified. Earlier this week, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran had suspended message exchanges with Washington in protest against Israel’s latest military actions in Lebanon. The report suggested that recent developments had complicated ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The claim was later disputed by Donald Trump, who stated that discussions between Washington and Tehran were continuing and progressing rapidly despite reports of a temporary halt.
Meanwhile, regional tensions rose further after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched missile and drone attacks against US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain. The strikes were described as retaliation for an overnight US attack on an IRGC communications facility located on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf.
The developments underscore the fragile security situation in the region, where military confrontations, diplomatic negotiations and ceasefire efforts continue to unfold simultaneously, raising concerns about the potential for a wider conflict.
