Manipur: Fresh Violence Erupts Again; 03 Killed 7 Houses Set Ablaze.
Imphal; June 2026: Fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district early today (Friday – 05th June 2026) leaving 03 civilians dead and 07 houses reduced to ashes after armed militants allegedly attacked Loibol Khullen village under Bungte Chiru Sub-Division.
In separate statements, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), South West Sadar Hills Block, alleged that the assault was carried out at around 04:00 hours by heavily armed cadres of NSCN-IM, ZUF (K) and ZUF-Kamson.
The deceased were identified as Letkhongam Haokip (34); his wife Tinmary Haokip (30); and Jangminlal Haokip (34). Apart from the loss of three lives, seven houses were reportedly burnt and extensive damage caused to civilian property during the attack.
Condemning the incident, KIM described the assault as a “barbaric act of violence” against unarmed civilians and said the deliberate killing of innocent villagers and destruction of homes constituted a grave violation of human rights and human dignity.
The organisation expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the incident had plunged the Kuki-Zo community into mourning. It urged the Government of India and security agencies to launch an immediate investigation, identify and apprehend those responsible, and strengthen protection for vulnerable villages. “KIM strongly demands that the perpetrators be brought to justice and that decisive measures be taken to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of innocent civilians”, the organisation said. It further warned, “Kuki Inpi Manipur shall not be held responsible for any consequences arising from this heinous crime against our people”.
The KSO South West Sadar Hills Block also strongly condemned the attack, claiming that Loibol Khullen is a historic Kuki ancestral village and alleging that the incident formed part of a series of assaults targeting Kuki communities. “The attack on Laibol Khullen is further proof of how Kukis are being targeted in their own ancestral land under the aggression of Naga insurgent groups”, it alleged in a statement.
The student body has also criticised the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, alleging that a condemnation statement issued shortly after the incident indicated prior knowledge of the attack. It further claimed that Charoipantongba Part-I serves as a hideout for ZUF-K and NSCN (IM) cadres. These allegations, however, could not be independently verified.
Demanding immediate intervention, it stated, “We urge the State and Central Government to take swift and lawful action against the perpetrators and ensure the safety and security of the Kuki-Zo people”. The latest killings have further heightened tensions in the hill district, with Kuki organisations demanding justice for the victims and stronger security measures in vulnerable areas. The incident comes days after the Centre approved the deployment of two battalions of the CRPF’s elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in Manipur as part of efforts to reinforce security and undertake operations against armed groups involved in violence in the state.
