Israel Intercepts Missile Fired from Yemen as Regional Tensions Continue to Escalate
Jerusalem, June 2026 : The Israeli military said on Monday morning that it successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, marking the latest security challenge amid rising tensions across the Middle East following recent exchanges involving Israel, Iran and allied groups in the region.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), air defence systems detected the missile after it was launched toward Israeli territory and intercepted it before it could cause damage. The military did not immediately provide details about the missile’s trajectory or the specific interception system used.
The attack triggered air raid sirens across parts of central Israel, including the commercial hub of Tel Aviv, prompting residents to seek shelter. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
The missile launch came just hours after Israel carried out strikes in Iran. Israeli authorities said the operation targeted military facilities in western and central Iran. The strikes followed a fresh round of confrontation between Israel and Iran-linked forces across the region.
The security situation intensified on Sunday when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel. Tehran said the attack was in response to escalating Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon and recent strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a stronghold of Hezbollah.
Iranian military officials warned that any further Israeli escalation could provoke a stronger response. Ali Abdollahi, Chief Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that Israel would face more severe consequences if it expanded military operations in Lebanon or retaliated against Iranian actions.
The Iranian missile barrage activated warning sirens across northern Israel, although no casualties or significant damage were reported. In response, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the Israeli military was prepared to act decisively and would strike hostile forces when directed.
Meanwhile, Israel conducted another strike targeting Hezbollah-linked positions in Beirut on Sunday. Iranian officials subsequently described their missile launches as retaliatory measures linked to those operations.
Adding another layer to the regional crisis, Yemen’s Houthi movement publicly voiced support for Iran’s military action against Israel. In a statement broadcast by the Houthi-run Al-Masirah television channel, the group said Iran’s response demonstrated the unity of what it called the “axis of resistance” against Israel.
The Houthis said they remain in close coordination with regional allies and warned against further escalation. The group described Israel’s recent military actions as provocative and pledged continued support for efforts opposing Israeli operations in the region.
The latest missile interception highlights the widening scope of the conflict, with multiple actors now involved across several fronts. As tensions continue to mount, regional governments and international observers remain concerned about the possibility of a broader confrontation that could further destabilise the Middle East.
