Yuvraj Singh Set for First IPL Coaching Role with Delhi Capitals Ahead of 2027 Season

New Delhi, June 2026 : Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to embark on his first official coaching assignment in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with reports indicating that he will join the support staff of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 season.

The move marks a significant new chapter in Yuvraj’s cricketing journey following his retirement from international and domestic cricket in 2019. Widely regarded as one of India’s greatest match-winners, Yuvraj played a pivotal role in the country’s triumphs at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Although he has never held a formal coaching position, Yuvraj has spent recent years mentoring and guiding several promising Indian cricketers. Among those who have benefited from his experience are Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya and Abdul Samad. He has also worked closely with established stars such as Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant during different stages of their careers.

According to media reports, Yuvraj is expected to become part of a revamped Delhi Capitals management group likely to be headed by former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly currently serves as Director of Cricket for JSW Group and is also associated with the SA20 franchise Pretoria Capitals.

The restructuring comes as JSW Group prepares to regain operational control of Delhi Capitals for the next two years under the franchise’s ownership arrangement with GMR Group. The two stakeholders alternate management responsibilities for both the IPL and Women’s Premier League teams every two seasons.

During GMR’s tenure in charge in 2025 and 2026, Delhi Capitals struggled to maintain consistency. Under captain Axar Patel and head coach Hemang Badani, the team finished fifth and sixth respectively, narrowly missing out on playoff qualification in both seasons.

Interestingly, speculation about Yuvraj joining the Delhi Capitals setup first surfaced after the franchise failed to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, but the discussions did not materialise at the time.

With the franchise still searching for its maiden IPL title, Delhi Capitals will hope that Yuvraj’s vast experience, winning mentality and reputation for nurturing young talent can help transform the team’s fortunes as it prepares for the landmark 20th season of the tournament.

Team Maverick.
