Prachi, Minakshi Shine as India Secures Six Medals at World Boxing Cup in China
Guiyang (China), June 2026 : India continued its impressive run at the World Boxing Cup 2026 (Stage 2) in Guiyang, with a series of dominant performances in the quarterfinals ensuring at least six medals for the country. Leading the charge was Prachi, who produced one of the standout victories of the tournament by defeating an Olympic medallist to advance to the semifinals.
Competing in the women’s 57kg category, Prachi displayed remarkable composure and skill to overcome Paris Olympics bronze medallist Shih Yi Wu of Chinese Taipei. In a closely contested bout, the Indian boxer emerged victorious with a 4-1 split decision, guaranteeing herself a podium finish and strengthening India’s medal prospects.
Another major highlight came from Minakshi, the reigning world champion and world No. 1 in the 48kg division, who is currently competing in the Olympic 51kg category. The Indian boxer continued her dominant form with a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision win over Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova, the reigning 2025 world champion and world No. 3. The victory is regarded as one of the most significant achievements of the tournament so far and underlined Minakshi’s smooth transition to a higher weight class.
India’s success was not limited to the women’s draw. In the men’s competition, Deepak delivered a composed and technically sound performance in the 70kg category, defeating Azerbaijan’s Nabi Isgandarov by a unanimous 5-0 verdict. The win secured his place in the semifinals and ensured another medal for the Indian contingent.
Nikhil also impressed in the 55kg division, producing a dominant display against Azerbaijan’s Amin Mammadzada. The Indian boxer controlled the bout from the outset and claimed a convincing 5-0 victory to move into the final four.
With these victories, India confirmed six medals at the prestigious tournament, highlighting the depth and quality of its boxing programme across multiple weight categories. The team will now aim to convert these guaranteed medals into gold when the semifinal and final bouts take place.
Not all results went India’s way, however. Saneh, competing in the women’s 65kg category, fought hard but was unable to overcome Poland’s Kinga Krówka, suffering a 0-5 defeat and exiting the competition at the quarterfinal stage.
India’s strong showing follows another positive day at the tournament on Thursday when Minakshi advanced to the quarterfinals with a dominant 5-0 victory over Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska. However, Abhinash Jamwal’s campaign ended after a 0-5 loss to Kyrgyzstan’s Mirzokhid Imamnazarov in the men’s 65kg category.
With six medals already assured and several boxers still in contention for top honours, India remains one of the standout performers at the World Boxing Cup. The focus now shifts to the semifinals, where the Indian contingent will look to continue its winning momentum and secure multiple places in the finals.
