PM Modi meets the President of Singapore, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in Singapore

Singapore : During his two-day visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to explore ways to expand and deepen cooperation between India and Singapore.

The leaders exchanged warm greetings before engaging in detailed discussions. PM Modi also signed the visitor’s book and expressed his gratitude to President Shanmugaratnam for his enthusiastic support of the India-Singapore partnership.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “PM @narendramodi held productive talks with President @Tharman_S in Singapore today. PM thanked President @Tharman_S for his passionate support of the India-Singapore partnership. They focused on broadening and deepening cooperation between the two countries.”

The discussions covered both bilateral and global issues of mutual interest, underscoring the strong friendship and cooperation built on trust, mutual respect, and complementary strengths. The leaders also explored potential collaborations in advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.

Earlier, PM Modi attended a luncheon hosted by Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Reflecting on the meeting, PM Modi said, “It is always a pleasure to meet my friend and former PM of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong. He has consistently championed closer ties between India and Singapore.”

A highlight of the visit was PM Modi’s tour of AEM Holdings Ltd’s semiconductor facility, where he was accompanied by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. During this visit, PM Modi invited Singapore’s semiconductor companies to participate in the upcoming SEMICON INDIA exhibition in Greater Noida.

Additionally, PM Modi engaged with interns from Odisha’s World Skill Center who were visiting Singapore, as well as Singaporean interns who had previously visited India under the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme. “Such cooperation is truly special and highlights human talent and innovation,” PM Modi remarked.

In a significant development, India and Singapore elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two countries also exchanged four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of digital technology, semiconductors, skill development, and healthcare.
