76,108 people register under PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme in Ayodhya division

Ayodhya : Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Ayodhya is rapidly transforming into a solar energy city. In the Ayodhya division, over 76,000 people have registered for solar energy connections.

To address the growing electricity demand, the central government has launched the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, ensuring households receive power as per their needs. As part of the initiative, Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is establishing a 40 MW solar plant.

Additionally, solar energy systems are being installed in homes across the Ayodhya division. Solar Sakhi teams are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns to promote the scheme further.

Approximately 10 square meters of shade-free roof space is required per kilowatt to install a solar rooftop plant. A typical 1 kW plant generates 4-5 units of electricity daily. After the building owner utilizes the electricity produced, any surplus is transferred to the grid and credited to the electricity bill via net metering by the relevant DISCOM. The investment made by the consumer in setting up the solar plant is usually recovered within 3 to 4 years through savings on electricity bills.

The Central and State Governments are providing accessible subsidies to various categories of domestic consumers. The subsidies allowed by the Government of India and the State Government are being given as follows:

1- One kilo watt – Central grant – 30000, State share – 15000
Total grant – 45000
2- Two kilo watt – Central grant _ 60000, State share – 30000, Total grant – 90000
3- Three kilo watt – Central grant – 78000, State share – 30000
Total grant – 108000

The estimated cost for installing a solar rooftop plant with a capacity of 1 to 10 kilowatts ranges between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000 per kilowatt. After installation, the grants provided by the central and state governments are directly credited to the consumer’s account.

To benefit from the scheme, individuals must apply online at https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/. For added convenience, the Government of India has also developed a mobile app for submissions.

A list of banks offering loans for solar rooftop installations is available on the government’s portal, allowing consumers to finance their setup. Vendor empanelment is being coordinated under the guidance of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, and 525 vendors have been registered in the state. Uttar Pradesh has set a target of installing solar rooftop plants in 25 lakh homes, with specific goals allocated district-wise and DISCOM-wise.
