FSSAI Orders Vigilance to Prevent Adulteration During Festivals
New Delhi : With the festive season driving up the demand for sweets and dairy products, the risk of adulteration increases. To safeguard consumer health, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has instructed Food Safety Commissioners in all states and Union Territories to strictly monitor the production and sale of these items.
According to FSSAI, the demand for sweets, snacks (farsan), and dairy products such as ghee, khoya, and paneer significantly rises during festivals, leading some manufacturers to engage in adulteration. To combat this, FSSAI has launched special monitoring and enforcement campaigns to ensure compliance.
Special Measures and Monitoring
FSSAI has mandated close surveillance of the production and sale of sweets, farsan, and dairy products in every state and Union Territory. Regular enforcement campaigns are to be conducted to prevent potential adulteration. Additionally, FSSAI has directed the deployment of “Food Safety on Wheels” (FSW) units in markets where the risk of adulteration is higher. These units will ensure that food safety regulations are upheld and that consumers are provided with safe food.
