Dream of Homes for Blacksmiths and Tanners to Become Reality – Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai : A total of 12,000 houses will be constructed for dabbawalas and tanners in Mumbai, as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today between the developer and the government. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the 60-year-old dream of the dabbawalas will be realized within the next three years.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis had earlier assured this initiative, and today marks the fulfillment of that promise. These homes will be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), with MHADA taking the lead. Priyanka Homes Realty has allocated 30 acres of land for the project, while Naman Builders will execute the construction on a “no profit, no loss” basis. A total of 12,000 homes will be created, specifically for the dabbawala and leather workers’ communities. Each house, measuring 500 square feet, will be offered at a cost of just ₹25 lakhs. The long-awaited dream of homeownership for the dabbawalas and leather workers is expected to come true within the next three years.

“Our dabbawalas are world-renowned. They have upheld the Warkari tradition and have never compromised on their values and loyalty, making them an exemplary model of management,” said Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis.

The event, held at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai, was attended by Jayesh Shah of Naman Builders, Rudrapratap Tripathi of Priyanka Homes Realty, MLA Srikanth Bharatiya, Ulhas Muke from the Dabbawala Association, and Ashok Gaikwad Maharaj from the Charmkar Nivara Association.
