Pune Realtor Murder Probe Deepens as Accused’s Brother Faces 10-Hour Interrogation; Fast-Track Trial Ordered
Pune, June 2026 : The investigation into the sensational murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal has entered a crucial phase after police subjected Sahil Goyal, the brother of prime accused Siya Goyal, to nearly 10 hours of questioning. During the marathon interrogation, Sahil reportedly told investigators that the family would never have forced the marriage had Siya expressed any reservations about marrying Ketan, a statement that investigators believe could become significant in establishing the motive behind the alleged conspiracy.
According to police officials, Sahil Goyal appeared before investigators at the Lonavala Rural Police Station on Friday morning and was questioned until late evening. Officers sought detailed information about Siya Goyal’s relationship with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary and attempted to verify several developments that have emerged during the investigation.
During the questioning, Sahil reportedly told police, “If Siya had told us she did not want to marry Ketan, we would have immediately called off the wedding.”
Police are treating the statement as an important element in determining whether Siya had deliberately concealed her alleged relationship with Chetan while proceeding with preparations for her marriage to Ketan.
The case relates to the murder of 28-year-old Ketan Agarwal, Director and Chief Marketing Officer of the Pune-based Success Group, who allegedly died after being pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Investigators have accused his fiancée, 20-year-old Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, of conspiring to kill him because Siya reportedly no longer wished to proceed with the marriage, which was scheduled to take place in November.
Initially, the incident was treated as an accidental death after Siya claimed Ketan had slipped while trekking. However, the investigation took a dramatic turn after police examined CCTV footage from the Lohagad Fort ticket counter.
According to investigators, the footage showed a hooded man dressed in shorts and a sweatshirt walking a short distance behind the couple despite the day’s temperature touching nearly 33 degrees Celsius. In one of the clips, Siya was allegedly seen looking back before the hooded individual suddenly sat down to avoid attracting attention. Police later identified the man as Chetan Chaudhary.
Further investigation revealed what police describe as a carefully planned conspiracy. Officers allege that Siya repeatedly persuaded Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort in the weeks preceding his death. The couple reportedly visited the fort on May 31, while another planned visit on June 4 was cancelled after Ketan’s mother objected. Police also claim that on June 14, Siya allegedly attempted to push Ketan off the cliff, but he survived by grabbing a nearby bush. When questioned at the time, she reportedly claimed she had reacted after spotting a snake.
Investigators believe the alleged murder plot was finally executed on June 18, when Ketan accompanied Siya to the fort. Police allege that Chetan, who had been hiding nearby, assisted in pushing Ketan into the gorge before the duo attempted to portray the incident as an accident.
However, Siya’s family has strongly rejected the allegations surrounding her intentions.
Her mother has claimed that Siya had no interest in visiting Lohagad Fort on the day of the incident and that it was Ketan and his mother who persuaded her during a video call on June 17. According to her, Siya had wanted to remain at home because of a family function scheduled for the following day.
Meanwhile, Siya’s father dismissed reports suggesting that the wedding was being planned on an extravagant scale. While confirming that the marriage was scheduled to take place in Udaipur in November, he said around 70 hotel rooms had been booked and the total expenditure was expected to remain below Rs 3 crore.
On the other hand, Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, rejected speculation that his son’s use of a toupee due to minor medical hair loss had played any role in the alleged crime.
“The matter had been disclosed well before the marriage was finalised. If Siya had any objection, she could simply have refused the proposal. There was absolutely no need for such a tragedy,” he said.
The high-profile case has generated widespread attention across Maharashtra, prompting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to personally meet Ketan’s family and assure them of full government support during the legal process.
Responding to the family’s request, the Maharashtra government has decided to conduct the proceedings through a fast-track court and appointed senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor.
Calling the incident deeply disturbing, Chief Minister Fadnavis said the case raises broader questions about changing social values and criminal behaviour among educated youth.
“It is an extremely shocking and incomprehensible incident. Society must reflect on why educated young men and women from respectable families develop such criminal intent. This is not merely a criminal case; it also has a significant social dimension,” the Chief Minister said.
Police continue to examine digital evidence, financial records and forensic material as they work to build a comprehensive case against the accused before filing the final chargesheet.
