From Struggle to Success: Girls’ Home Resident Shivbati Becomes an Inspiration for Young Girls

Overcoming Adversity to Turn Dreams into Reality

Qualifies for State-Level Archery Championship After Winning Divisional Competition

Raipur, July 2026: Inspiring stories often emerge from the most challenging circumstances, proving that determination, proper guidance and perseverance can transform adversity into success. Shivbati, a resident of the Chhattisgarh State Child Welfare Council’s Girls’ Home in Kondagaon, has demonstrated this through her remarkable journey from hardship to achievement.

Born with a hearing impairment, Shivbati faced immense personal tragedies at a young age. She lost her mother to illness during childhood, and soon after, her father was killed in Naxal violence. Following the loss of her parents, her uncle admitted her to the Girls’ Home in Kondagaon, where she found a safe and nurturing environment to rebuild her life.

Despite the emotional and physical challenges she endured, Shivbati refused to give up on her dreams. The Girls’ Home provided her with quality education, care, protection and opportunities to develop her talents.

Recognising her keen interest in archery, the district administration and the Women and Child Development Department arranged professional coaching for her under trainers from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Her outstanding performance led to her selection for the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence at Bahatarai, Bilaspur, where she underwent a year of advanced training, significantly enhancing her technical skills and self-confidence.

To further support aspiring athletes, the Women and Child Development Department also provided Indian and recurve archery equipment for the girls at the Girls’ Home through the Child Welfare Fund. Timely access to quality equipment, expert coaching and Shivbati’s unwavering dedication helped her achieve remarkable progress in the sport.

Currently residing at the Kondagaon Girls’ Home and continuing her regular training, Shivbati recently delivered an exceptional performance at the Divisional School Archery Championship held in Jagdalpur. She secured first place, earning qualification for the upcoming State-Level School Archery Championship.

Her achievement stands as a shining example of courage, resilience and the transformative power of opportunity. Shivbati’s success demonstrates that when children are provided with a secure environment, quality training, proper mentorship and adequate resources, they can overcome even the most difficult circumstances and realise their full potential.

Today, Shivbati is not only a source of pride for the Girls’ Home but also an inspiration for thousands of children—especially girls with disabilities—who aspire to achieve their dreams despite facing significant challenges.

The Kondagaon District Administration, the Women and Child Development Department, the Chhattisgarh State Child Welfare Council, and the Kondagaon Girls’ Home congratulated Shivbati on her outstanding accomplishment and extended their best wishes for the State-Level School Archery Championship and her future career.

The authorities expressed confidence that with her talent, determination and continued hard work, Shivbati will not only bring laurels to Chhattisgarh at the state level but will also make the state proud by excelling at national-level competitions in the years to come.

Team Maverick.
