Political Showdown in Jaipur as BJP and Congress Hold Rival Protests, Heavy Security Deployed Across City

Jaipur, July 2026 : Rajasthan witnessed a fresh political flashpoint on Wednesday as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress organised rival demonstrations in Jaipur, leading to heightened tensions and prompting an extensive security deployment across the state capital. The protests, triggered by the ongoing political confrontation over recent events in New Delhi, saw both parties attempting to march to each other’s state headquarters, forcing police to intervene to prevent a law-and-order situation.

The BJP launched a protest march towards the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters, accusing Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of violating constitutional norms during the Opposition’s protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi earlier this week.

The procession was led by Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore and was joined by senior party leaders, including Shankar Agora, Rakhi Rathore and several state office-bearers. Thousands of BJP workers participated in the rally, carrying party flags and raising slogans against the Congress leadership.

As the march proceeded through Jaipur’s C-Scheme area towards the Congress headquarters, police personnel stopped the protesters by erecting multiple layers of barricades. When several BJP workers attempted to push through the barricades and continue towards the PCC office, Jaipur Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd. The situation remained tense for some time before security personnel brought it under control.

Addressing party workers during the demonstration, Madan Rathore alleged that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress had repeatedly shown disrespect towards constitutional institutions and democratic traditions. He asserted that the BJP would continue protesting what it described as attempts to undermine constitutional offices and maintained that the people of Rajasthan would not tolerate such actions.

The Congress, however, dismissed the BJP’s protest as politically motivated and announced a counter-demonstration against the ruling party. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra accused the BJP of diverting attention from issues affecting students and unemployed youth.

Speaking at a press conference shortly after the BJP’s protest, Dotasra described the demonstration as an exercise in futility and argued that the ruling party was ignoring more pressing concerns, including alleged examination paper leaks, the activities of what he termed the “cheating mafia” and allegations linking certain individuals with the BJP.

He questioned why the BJP was targeting Rahul Gandhi instead of responding to demands for accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the concerns raised by students protesting across the country.

Dotasra also criticised the BJP leadership for organising demonstrations in Jaipur while Parliament was in session, claiming that the ruling party was avoiding discussion on substantive national issues. Announcing the Congress’ next course of action, he declared that party workers would march towards the BJP’s state headquarters to register their protest against what he termed the ruling party’s “arrogance.”

The latest confrontation follows a demonstration held in Jaipur a day earlier, when former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Dotasra and several senior Congress leaders staged a protest and courted symbolic arrest over issues related to the alleged NEET paper leak and police action against student protesters.

With both parties announcing plans to converge near each other’s offices, Jaipur Police stepped up security arrangements across the city to prevent clashes between rival supporters. Senior police officials deployed a large contingent of security personnel around the BJP and Congress headquarters located in the C-Scheme area, while additional forces were stationed at Chandpole, MI Road and other sensitive locations.

Police also installed extensive barricading on major approach roads and deployed riot-control vehicles equipped with water cannons to deal with any escalation. Drone surveillance was introduced to monitor crowd movement and identify potential flashpoints, while traffic diversions were enforced across several parts of Jaipur to minimise disruption.

Officials said every effort was being made to ensure that workers from the two political parties did not come face-to-face, thereby preventing any untoward incident. Despite the tense political atmosphere, authorities maintained that the situation remained under control.

The rival protests underscore the intensifying political battle between the BJP and the Congress in Rajasthan, with both parties using street demonstrations to sharpen their campaigns ahead of future electoral contests. As the confrontation continues to spill beyond Parliament onto the streets, Jaipur has emerged as one of the latest centres of the escalating political war between the two major parties.
