Along with promoting organic farming, Gadadih farmer Ramanlal Sahu has become a support for nomadic cattle
In today’s modern era, farming is not given as much importance as government or any other job. In old times, the elders believed that if you do a job, you will remain a servant all your life. That is why the old people gave less importance to the job and more importance to their own business. A similar story is of progressive farmer Shri Ramanlal Sahu, resident of village Gadadih in Dhamtari district. He has left behind traditional farming and adopted modern farming. While promoting organic farming, he has also done commendable work in the direction of water and environmental conservation.
Progressive farmer Shri Sahu says that he has been doing organic farming of paddy for the last 8 years and is growing pulses and oilseeds in the Rabi season to conserve water. This has not only increased the fertility of the land but also the productivity of the crop. He said that he has more than 3 acres of agricultural land, in which he grows paddy in the Kharif season and pulses and oilseeds in the Rabi season. Shri Sahu says that apart from being a farmer, he is also an animal friend, he has prepared a Gauthan in an area of 25 decimals near his farm with the aim of supporting the cattle roaming in the streets and neighborhoods. He is using the dung obtained from these cattle in organic farming. He is earning a net income of 9 thousand rupees every month by selling milk. Shri Sahu also said that he has built a small pond in the field, which is providing water to the cattle, and he has also installed a solar panel by CREDA. Along with this, by installing a biogas plant, they boil food and water for the cattle.
Shri Ramanlal Sahu is encouraging other farmers to do organic farming by making them aware about the ill-effects of chemical farming. He also uses the dung and cow urine produced from his cowshed in his fields and produces chemical-free food grains and arranges to deliver them to consumers. For promoting organic farming and his remarkable work, Shri Sahu was also honored by Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai on the occasion of Balaram Jayanti organized at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University recently.
