Rajnath Singh Says Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation Reflects Government’s Respect for Students’ Sentiments

New Delhi, July 2026 : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s decision to resign was taken in deference to the sentiments of students and youth, underscoring the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to addressing concerns over examination irregularities and safeguarding the future of the country’s young generation.

Pradhan stepped down from his post following weeks of nationwide protests triggered by alleged paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations, particularly the NEET-UG controversy. Student organisations and opposition parties had been demanding accountability and comprehensive reforms to restore confidence in the examination system.

In a post on his official X account, Rajnath Singh said the resignation demonstrated that the government places the aspirations and concerns of students at the centre of its decision-making process.

“Keeping in mind the sentiments of the youth and students, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post. His resignation is proof that for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and our government, respecting the feelings of students and remaining committed to their bright future is of the highest importance,” the Defence Minister stated.

Singh said the Centre was treating concerns surrounding the NEET examination, the paper leak controversy and the demand for reforms in the education sector with “utmost seriousness and sensitivity.” He stressed that the government remains committed to engaging with students, listening to their grievances and ensuring that corrective measures are implemented effectively.

According to him, addressing students’ concerns and restoring confidence in the integrity of the examination system would continue to remain among the government’s highest priorities.

“Listening carefully to students’ concerns, ensuring that their issues are resolved, and giving them confidence that their voices will be heard are our foremost responsibilities,” Singh said.

The Defence Minister also expressed hope that the developments would help students move beyond the uncertainty of recent weeks and refocus on their academic goals and career aspirations.

“I am confident that our youth and students will now be able to concentrate wholeheartedly on their studies, fulfil their dreams and aspirations, and contribute significantly towards building a strong, prosperous and developed India,” he added.

Praising Pradhan’s tenure, Rajnath Singh described him as a dedicated public servant whose work as Education Minister reflected a strong commitment to the vision of transforming India into a developed nation. He said Pradhan’s contribution to public life had consistently been inclusive, progressive and aligned with the aspirations of a “New India.”

Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Jitendra Singh, also paid tribute to Pradhan’s tenure, saying his departure marked the end of an important chapter in India’s education reforms.

Jitendra Singh, who, along with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, represented the Centre during negotiations with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), credited Pradhan with steering the education sector through complex challenges while keeping students’ interests at the forefront.

He said Pradhan’s leadership was marked by conviction, energy and a clear vision for strengthening India’s education ecosystem. Singh further noted that the former Education Minister leaves behind an important conversation on the future of education and wished him success in his continued public service.
