Chandrababu Naidu Reviews Preparations for PM Modi’s August 1 Inauguration of Bhogapuram International Airport

Amaravati, July 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of the arrangements for the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure meticulous planning and flawless execution to make the event a landmark occasion for the state.

According to an official release, Naidu described the airport as a transformative infrastructure project that would significantly boost the development of North Andhra and strengthen the state’s aviation network. Constructed in a record period of 31 months, the world-class greenfield airport is expected to enhance domestic and international air connectivity while driving economic growth, tourism, employment generation and investment across the region.

Calling the airport a matter of immense pride for the people of North Andhra and the Telugu community, the Chief Minister instructed officials to organise a grand and culturally rich welcome for Prime Minister Modi. He suggested that the reception should feature the region’s traditional Dhimsa tribal dance alongside a classical Kuchipudi performance, showcasing Andhra Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage.

Naidu also proposed organising a record-breaking Dhimsa dance performance involving thousands of participants with the objective of securing a place in the Guinness World Records. He said the event should simultaneously promote North Andhra’s tourism potential and unique products, including the internationally acclaimed Araku Coffee, tribal culture and other prominent tourist destinations.

To build public enthusiasm ahead of the inauguration, the Chief Minister directed officials to launch a statewide awareness campaign under the theme “Wings to the Dreams of North Andhra.” The campaign aims to ensure that the airport project becomes a household topic while highlighting its long-term economic and social benefits.

As part of the outreach initiative, Naidu recommended organising programmes specifically targeting women, youth and school students. He suggested conducting quiz competitions, elocution contests, flash mobs, drone shows, awareness drives, and 3K and 5K runs under the campaign banner. He also proposed round-table discussions with industrialists and business leaders to showcase the investment opportunities that the airport is expected to create. Winners of various competitions will be invited as special guests to witness the inauguration ceremony.

The Chief Minister further emphasised the need for an extensive digital publicity campaign through social media platforms to maximise public engagement and awareness.

Officials informed Naidu that after inaugurating the airport terminal building, Prime Minister Modi will also lay foundation stones and dedicate multiple development projects worth approximately ₹18,000 crore related to the Ministries of Petroleum, Road Transport and Highways, and other central government departments.

According to the tentative schedule, the Prime Minister will arrive at the airport aboard a special aircraft at 10:45 a.m., where he will be received by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. At 10:58 a.m., he will formally inaugurate the airport terminal before inspecting the state-of-the-art facility along with senior dignitaries.

The Prime Minister will then proceed in an open-top vehicle to the public meeting venue, where over 13,500 tribal women and students are expected to welcome him with a spectacular Dhimsa dance performance. He is scheduled to address the gathering from 11:30 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. before departing for New Delhi at 1:10 p.m.

The inauguration of the Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to mark a defining moment in Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure development, positioning North Andhra as a major aviation, tourism and investment hub while accelerating the state’s broader economic growth agenda.
