Maha Arogya Camp: A Boon for Patients

Mumbai, July 2026 : Although the saying “Health is Wealth” is widely known, many people continue to neglect their health due to ignorance or financial constraints. While some ignore medical issues assuming they are minor, many others are unable to access timely treatment because of economic hardship. Against this backdrop, the Maha Arogya Camp organised in Nagpur by the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund and the Charitable Hospitals Assistance Cell on the occasion of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ birthday has emerged as a major healthcare initiative, providing much-needed relief to thousands of patients.

Since assuming office as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has made healthcare one of his government’s highest priorities. His vision has been to ensure that quality medical facilities are accessible even to the poorest sections of society. To achieve this, the government has expanded healthcare infrastructure by increasing the number of hospitals and upgrading existing medical institutions with modern facilities.

Recognising that patients from remote and tribal regions often struggle to travel to major cities for treatment, the government has focused on establishing healthcare facilities closer to their homes. A recent example is the dedicated Women’s Hospital at Aheri in Gadchiroli district, which has significantly improved access to specialised healthcare for tribal communities.

The government has also transformed Government Medical College and Hospital (Medical) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo Hospital) in Nagpur into advanced medical institutions. These hospitals now provide state-of-the-art healthcare not only to patients from Vidarbha but also to those from neighbouring states such as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

The Maha Arogya Camp, held in Nagpur on July 26, 2026, forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen public healthcare services. The camp brought a wide range of medical facilities under one roof, enabling patients to access comprehensive healthcare services conveniently.

Prior to the mega camp, 69 health camps were organised across Nagpur between July 5 and July 15 by the Chief Minister’s Assistance Fund Cell. During these camps, 31,740 citizens underwent health check-ups, 4,463 blood tests were conducted, and 2,641 ABHA-Ayushman Cards were issued.

The camps offered consultations and diagnostic services across multiple specialities, including General Medicine, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Cardiology, along with ECG examinations, ABHA Card registration, and Ayushman Bharat enrolment.

Patients requiring advanced diagnostic tests such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, angiography, eye examinations, blood tests, and urine tests were provided these services free of cost under various government healthcare schemes. Necessary treatments, surgeries, and medicines are also being provided without charge.

An estimated 20,000 to 25,000 patients benefited from the Maha Arogya Camp. Importantly, the initiative does not end with the one-day event. Patients diagnosed with serious illnesses will continue to receive free diagnostic tests, treatment, surgeries, and medicines through government healthcare programmes.

With serious illnesses often pushing families into debt or forcing them to sell their assets, the Maharashtra government aims to prevent such financial distress by ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare. The Maha Arogya Camp in Nagpur stands as a significant example of this commitment, offering hope and quality medical care to thousands of citizens.
