CM Sets Target of 10 Million Litres Daily Milk Production, Plans to Make ‘Sudha’ a Global Dairy Brand

Patna, July 2026 : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform the state into a major dairy hub, setting a target of producing 10 million litres of milk per day and developing the ‘Sudha’ dairy brand into an internationally recognised brand.

The Chief Minister made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for a 20-metric-tonne-per-day curd and lassi processing plant, an HPCL petrol pump operated by COMFED, and a Sudha Cafeteria at the Biharsharif Dairy Project in Nalanda district.

On the occasion, he also distributed deep freezers to 300 retail vendors, flagged off animal rescue and transportation vehicles, inaugurated a training programme for livestock farmers, and inspected the Sudha Dairy Plant at Biharsharif.

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said Nalanda, with its rich historical legacy, would now emerge as Bihar’s leading dairy production and processing hub. He said the state aims to usher in a “new dairy revolution” that will strengthen the rural economy and make Bihar self-reliant.

“The government’s goal is to achieve daily milk production of one crore litres. To accomplish this, livestock farmers are being provided with modern technology, advanced training, improved cattle breeds, better veterinary healthcare and a robust dairy infrastructure,” he said.

The Chief Minister described the new curd and lassi processing plant as a major milestone that would help farmers secure better prices for their produce while creating new employment opportunities and accelerating rural economic growth.

In a major policy announcement, Choudhary said the government would establish a separate federation for goat farming to promote the sector across Bihar. Goat milk production will be integrated into the federation’s network for collection, processing and marketing, creating an organised value chain.

He noted that millions of rural families, particularly women associated with self-help groups under the Jeevika programme, would benefit from expanded goat-rearing activities through increased income opportunities.

The Chief Minister also announced that Prime Minister Jan Aushadhi Veterinary Centres would be established in every block across the state to provide affordable and quality veterinary medicines to livestock owners. Around 1,000 veterinary medicine centres are planned to ensure easy availability of medicines in all blocks.

Highlighting the government’s long-term vision, Choudhary said Bihar’s objective extends beyond meeting domestic demand for milk and dairy products.

“Our goal is not only to fulfil the state’s dairy requirements but also to establish Sudha as an internationally recognised brand. Through quality enhancement, modern technology, value addition and export-oriented production, Bihar’s dairy products will reach global markets,” he said.

According to the Chief Minister, Bihar currently contributes nearly 25 per cent of India’s total milk production, and the government is rapidly expanding the dairy cooperative network. Around 2,500 new dairy cooperative societies have already been formed, while 200 new Sudha retail outlets are planned, with locations identified for 88 of them.

He further announced that rural markets would be developed on available government land across villages, where farmers would be able to sell milk, vegetables and fish directly to consumers. Over the past six to seven months, nearly 2,000 new milk producer societies have also been established to strengthen procurement and marketing.

Expressing confidence in the state’s dairy expansion plans, Choudhary said the projects launched on Monday would give fresh momentum to Bihar’s “White Revolution”, significantly enhance the incomes of livestock farmers and contribute to the creation of a prosperous and developed Bihar.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijayendra Prasad Yadav, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Nand Kishore Ram, senior government officials, COMFED representatives, Jeevika members, dairy farmers and public representatives were present at the event.
